Bending valves and grinding engine blocks that are no longer being made and with nice clean used examples getting harder to find, this new water pump could not have come at a better time to start saving more 928 engines.

We know Ed has taken his time to R&D this new water pump to be perfect before rushing them out to market. Anyone doing a timing belt R&R would be foolish not to put one of these in.

Congratulations again, nicely done!

Cheers,

Thank you for the kind words as your opinion I have high regard.I know your high standard of quality and coming from you I believe I have hit the mark that this community expects and deserves. Ed

Ed: If somebody else told me thay had developed a pump with all the features you describe, I wouldn't believe them. This is major. Other than the pin in the impeller, I have no idea how you did all this.

As with the others, well done. We now have a great tool for those blocks which have been damaged and now a pretty bulletproof proactive solution. Save the 928s!

The timing belt uses its own giant double ball bearing which is inside the machined pulley, the water pump bearing is now only needed to support the impellor,if that bearing seizes or the impellor jambs, for whatever reason, the coupler gives up and the timingbelt continues to turn.If you watch your gauges you will shut off before you overheat,if not you'll be replacing blown head gaskets but you will not have bent valves. How about putting one on a wp thats on its last legs, maybe already starting to weep etc. and see how it fails on a OB maybe that's non interference?

Does this eliminate quality issues with a wp? ie is Hamburg Technic ok with this, or stick to LASO and Porsche?

How do you plan to roll them out, 50 then plenty, or 50 wait a bit to see how they do, then plenty?

Put me on the list of people "almost" ready for one.

One question - maybe i'm missing it from the pictures, how is the idler pulley supported independently of the pressed-in bearing in the housing? is the new idler pulley and bearings mounted to the housing somehow? i just think this thing is neat - what a super improvement. super kudos for all the work on this - looks very well thought out.

When can I get one?

I just talked to Todd, he's interested in one for his turbo project.

Some feel the LASO casting in inferior to others.
I don't see how that is an issue with this setup.

So, what is the coupler - hard rubber? I've read your description and looked at the picture, but I can't figure out how this goes together and how the roller for the tensioner is supported apart from the WP shaft. Would it be possible to show it apart? As you said, it is serviceable. Understand I'm not doubting your design at all. I'm just fascinated as to how you achieved this.
