I gotta agree.. would be very rare case if one of these transmissions failed. I would check the torque tube or torque converter. I have seen these cars with 300k on them with the original transmission there pretty bullet proof if fluid changes are done every once in a while. I have a 87 trans for $650 plus shipping. Your more than welcome to drive the car before I pull it out. Miles are 110k currently. I'm upgrading to a LSD unit is the reason for the swap.

My mechanic is going to France next week and has no time to pull the box.

We'll see what the story is on his return.

I see some used trans on ebay so I'll probably buy one of them if needed.

Oklahoma Foreign, Los Angeles Auto Parts, 928 World Wide Parts are the sellers.

The ad from 928 WWP is is thought provoking to say the least. The caption is 928 Transmissions '89 Open and shows a picture of one on it's side with the pan off - everything open to the elements. At first I thought they meant an open diff - now I'm not so sure.

At least it's early in the season...

I have had good dealings with Oklahoma Foreign and L.A. auto parts.

Let me ask again. When you put it in P (park), did the car stopped rolling? Your original post does say. Did Park work? Also, did your mechanic check the shifter linkage at the transmission?

Default Yes, it stopped rolling in Park...

He did check the linkage too. And the TC spins.

Things break. What are you gonna do?

That ebay ad for the "928 Transmission 89 Open" is pitiful. Used, abused, neglected. No resevoir, no pan, god knows no what else.

Could be simple and inexpensive.
