That's what mine looked like. So far, I've determined that MB has redesigned that part 4 times. The version that I put looked more "machined" vs. cast.

Check to see if you have the metal sleve or the plastic sleve that the top portion of the piston slides into. Some say that the metal to metal contact caused the failure.

Regards,
Roger

That's the b2 piston that "pushes" the b2 brake band in an auto trans. It's a weak point in the MB transmission.

A broken b2 piston results in a "slippage" in the gears. Over time, the slippage becomes so bad that it no longer allows the car to move forward.

Bert, please tell us more about the symptoms you encountered and the fix.

I can't find the B2 pics I took last year, but the end piece looks like that, among the other 30 parts that came out with it. If you've got the trans in the car, ensure you have EVERYTHING out of there before you put the new one in.

Symptoms were all working fine one minute, then zero drive in first and second gear the next, but reverse was fine. The fix - in my case full gearbox rebuild due to cooked brake bands, but usually just fit new piston.

I wonder how much metal is cruising through the trans lines and coolers as well as the valve body, also the torque converter and front pump??

Like I said, cost me a full rebuild in the end including converter, although all pieces were accounted for.
