Is this just a track mod? What's the feasibility of using this as a base to rebuild a cracked dash? We'll all need that at some point...

Man, HOW LUCKY ARE WE????!!!!! The creativity of this group just overwhelms me and makes me feel really small and pathetic! OMG, you guys are AMAZING!!!

That would be AWESOME for a Street/Track or track only car FOR SURE!

+1 The innovation on RL928 (for such a relatively low-production car) is astounding. Bravo!

Thanks for all the kind words. I’ll take credit for the idea and for making the rough plug but Walter Black is the talented guy that made the mold and then the actual part. This first pc was meant to be on the lighter side as I intend to use it in the track car. The mold is in two sections so there is a parting line along the top ridge of the dash. This part is made up of gelcoat, a layer of glass “chop” (shot from a special gun) and then a single layer of glass mat. The plug for the mold is an actual dash and console, complete with glove box door. I’m sure the part will fit exactly as the original.

I don’t know how usefull this would be to somone with a stock street car. There are no brackets or mounting points and all of the cut outs and holes have been filled. As a basis for dash projects or for “hot rod” applications, it should be perfect. Glass is easy to trim and modify so a determined owner could make anything happen…probably even replace a stock dash.

I won’t be installing it until mid winter but I’ll weigh it and report back. Thanks again for the positive comments.
Tass

PS..the pod is next on my list.

Thanks Andrew

I'm thinking I'll paint the whole thing wrinkle or pebble finish black.

Awesome job! My neighbor came over a few weeks ago and was watching me hassle with removing cracked and rotted dash with a sharpened putty knife so I could install a dash mat and make it look presentable for Sharktoberfest. After I told him how many sharks suffer from crappy dash syndrome, he says "you should duplicate that dash out of fiberglass, or better yet carbon fiber"... I had been thinking about it ever since. I imagined making a mold for it.... then Whammy! There it is... It's so amazing how the technological advancement of these cars continues 15 years after the end of production... Can't wait to see the finished product... Any chance your mold guy can lay CF? If not, I know a guy that makes CF hoods that could probably use that mold...... Fiberglass would probably work just fine as well. Have you thought about selling them yet? Price?

I already have a mould for a 924 dash and have hoped to have time to pull a mint dash from my 79 to take a mould off but reallife has thown me a few curves layely and I have ended up moving and am still in the process of moving from my old apt and shop downtown to a farm out in the country stay tooned I will see what i come up with this winter sry to hijack this thread that is an awsome dash for custom applications and as a longtime fibreglass person your man did an awsome job with that mould and part keep us posted on that boat i have always dreamed of making a crackerbox hull with a 928 mill in it i'm keeping my fingers crossed maybe i will win the lottery awsome job
