Radically re-designed console (Carputer, Climate, and one-touch windows)
My personal opinion is that there will be many people that may not use it but would be nice if they wanted to add in a feature that required it down the road.
It also depends on price.
Thanks for keeping us informed!
I am using a steering wheel form a car with volume control and phone options.
So I will need the added inputs for that. I am not sure if that would be analog or digital though.

Looks like the OEM supplier of the interface board is going to be very generous, and include the analog feature for us anyhow. It is not confirmed at this time, but looking hopeful. I just sent out a sample of the Alps navigation device to them for certification. The cost difference would have been around $10/part. It doesnt sound like a lot, but it all adds up - both on the capital side for us (since we need to buy all this stuff before we can sell it) and obviously it would get tacked on to all the consoles, even for those who would not use it.
To answer your question specifically, you would need an analog device, but the one we are licensing is not the correct one for your application. Ours maps an analog input to a single output. You need a device which reads a single analog input, interprets that figure, and then activates one several outputs depending on the analog reading. What you want is something like this:

Available for around $40 through MO-CO-SO:

"If you build it they will come."
Hans and I have opted to move away from the 3 **** design and came up with a reliable, easy to use and definitely modern looking unit, that still integrates perfectly and looks at home in our console.
I am almost done with the design, so pictures to come in a little while.

Today's good news is that we can go back to offering capacitive touchscreens. New versions compatible with the multi-touch features in Windows7 are due for evaluation in about 2 weeks, and will be ready for when these ship. These are much thinner than the previous CT panels we tried, and will likely negate the need for bonding. This will be determined when I get the samples.
Thanks
Hans

As to the number of people who should get a setup before SITM... its going to be as many as possible. As of yesterday, I have abandoned all projects related to getting my own car prepped, and this is the number one priority.
Greg - Dont even try to act like you arent on the list. You know you are getting one in the first batch.
Thanks,
Hans

here is rough rendition of the re-designed "simple" AC controller.

The mode selection is now done through the same switch technology as our window switch panels. The illumination is done through the same fiber optic technology as well. Each selection is verified with an LED in the "on" state for easy verification at a glance.
Contrary to the factory setup, modes can be selected in addition to one another.
So you can have recirculation with any vent selection. The middle dash vents do not have a selection because they are always on.
On the temp ****, the limit switches will activate a blue LED on full cold and a red LED on full hot.
Although the **** faces are not lit, a back lighting glow will set them off from the face.
Please keep in mind that a lot of tweaking still remains to be done.
Thanks

Great work to both you and Hans on this and the window switches and lighted door sill plate!
