WTB 89+ 6.5" Rear Speaker
I'm looking for a speaker or two which someone may have taken out of their 89 or later 928. This is the large speaker removed from the lower rear seat area.
The condition of the foam doesn't matter but the rest of the speaker has to be in good condition. Specifically no cracked plastic, damaged cones or damaged magnet.

My 91GT was basically stripped of all the original components (Amp, Crossovers and Tweeters) and 6 junk speakers were installed.
I just ordered the Kicker 10CVT 652 6.5' speakers (subwoofers) today. Price is $70 to $130. PM me and I will let you know the place where I ordered mine.
Upside is greater bass sound. Downside is a 1" depth extender is required.

Are you running the kickers offer off the original amp? When you receive and install them I and I'm sure many others would be interested in how they fit, how they look installed and how they sound.

I am very excited about this set up and may know how it works this time next week.
These are the best quality products given the givens and are not cheap. They sound great at the stereo shop and i can't wait.

I have one of these in good shape but i do not have the snap on grill with it. I would also have to chack and see which side it is as they are side specific. i think it is the passenger side. let me know if you are interested.

I installed 6.5" speakers in the stock location. It's been several years ago, but the depth was greater than what you have listed. I beat the inner panel outboard to provide the necessary clearence. Plenty of room in the wheel well and it has never created any secondary problems.

Not sure if they still make them, but MB Quart used to make speaker sets for both the doors and the rears that fit the 928 perfectly. 2 piece component set in the doors and a 3 piece in the rear.

I bought two of the 89+ 6.5s from 928 Intl. They normally don't show them for sale because their stock all have bad foam, and 928 Intl will not sell parts in bad condition. But I saw some on the shelf during a visit and asked Tom to sell me a pair, as bad as they were. I re-foamed them. Give them a call. Perhaps they will give you the same deal.
As to substitute speakers, like the Kickers - I think you'll be disappointed once you install them. The stock speakers, as lowly as they appear, are designed for free air installation. Most replacement speakers require a sealed chamber, which is very hard to do in that location. The wheel well area is quite open and large. The stock speakers, in good shape, do a reasonable job and everything else I tried sounded tinny. So, once you start replacing the stock system, most people end up with a sub. If anybody has found a good free-air 6.5 speaker that made a sub unnecessary, I'd like to know which one it is. I got tired of swapping in 6.5s trying to get reasonable bass. Even the honkin' (now discontinued) JL 3WO woofers, which required seriously hogging out the panel behind the speaker, sounded empty.

The other consideration is the amplifier. The JL Audio amp's channel 5 and 6 can be subwoofer specific.

I sent my existing two speakers out for refoaming to a place in Florida and I'm waiting for their diagnosis. One of the speakers was wrapping bad when the volume was turned up. Hopefully it's a quick repair with good results. The same speaker has broken plastic tabs and the speaker grill doesn't sit tightly on it so it rattles at higher volumes. That is ultimately why I'm searching for a new one.
BTW, both speakers look identical and hook up in the same way using existing quick release connections.

Ultimately my goal is to keep the car stock which means keeping the original head unit and amp. I don't have a problem changing speakers as long as the original amp can drive them. That is usually the problem with modern speakers, they require much more power to properly drive them and the stock amp isn't up to the task.

I believe that you can use Butyl Rubber to secure the grills to prevent rattle.
Are you using the Saint Pete shop ?
You are correct that the stock amp is anaemic and may not drive the newer subwoofers.

I'm using Simply Speakers in Pinellas Park FL for the rebuild.
