Windshield with antenna?
Hi folks,
My current windshield has about a 10" hairline crack in it. It's one of the ones with an embedded antenna. So far, I'm not finding much in the way of options for a replacement. Back about 10 years ago, I got a new one for my '85 S without much drama or cost, but I guess available stock is not so available anymore.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

I bought a sigla antenna windshield from this shop through eBay last year. I suggest giving them a call as I bought the last one and they were planning another shipment the begining of the year. Richard was very helpful and the price was good, not great $575 including shipping but it was an antenna window which adds $$$$.

U cant find the antenna ones anymore unless from the dealer. There is a non-antenna on Ebay right now, I offered 250 for it and he accepted, but they also want 150 shipping. I have a guy I know in VA that has one for me and will be getting it installed saturday. Good luck with your search, took me a month to find.
Here are some Windshield part #s for you.
F-374B [B stands for Blue /G would be Green Shade on top of the glass] [my PPG glass is this #]
FW-506 -No Antenna All years
FW-524 -Antenna -[Only offered 83-86 I believe-]
FW-682 -No AT 91-96
I have learned all years glass will interchange. But I have been unsuccessful finding glass on the east coast for my car. My professional guy tells me a lot of the 'old timers' are getting out of the business, and the guys that are taking it on are using a lot of foreign made glass. Even PPG is getting glass from Taiwan and China now (not to knock products from Asian countries, but sometimes their Exports are inferior to their own Domestic market products..).
Good luck in your search..

what kind of antenna options are there for non antenna windshields?
what do the newer cars do without one. something mounted under the dash?
There is a guy here in san jose selling and installing chinese glass for $200 installed.

I found a few stick on glass types and there is one called a 'tune trapper' however it's not reviewing well. I will likely go with one of the stick on glass types (stick it low near the defroster vents.).
Stay away from the Chinese glass most of the times the windshield is cheap (less than 100bucks) and if you look thorough it on the car will be wavy. (And thin).

The newer cars have the "bee-sting" mounted on the roof. The base contains an RF amplifier which is powered by a 12V wire which runs alongside the co-ax to the base of the antenna.

928 Specialists sells the roof top antenna that became standard in '89.
Windshields with antennas do turn up on ebay from time to time. But you have to be diligent in your search, and then keep your mouth shut if you find one. I got mine from ebay for around $300, but the killer was the freight charge that added an extra $200. Not a bad deal in the end. It was a Sigla.

This is just not true. They are available but not very many are made at a time nor many per year. Supply and Demand and all that stuff. You just have to scout around to find them. There was an EBay ad not long ago that listed 5 new windshields with the antenna within. Roger at 928sRus bought one, I think.
After all, Porsche does not make their own glass.

Sorry .. thanks for correcting me I also am using a Sigil Windshield. Unfortunately all my suppliers said the Glass with antenna was no longer available. Possible I was wrong, but I searched for almost 2 months..
To the OP good luck with your search.

I went through this process last year - could not find ANY glass at the time with antenna, so bought and installed one without it and will be looking for a fix also. Concerned that if I add a bee-sting antenna (like the look) it is not in keeping with the year. Any pics of one on an OB anyone??
I got my glass from ProSource Glass International too - speak to Richard Tankel. Toll Free:877-345-2800 As I recall, they had the brown tint with antenna but not the green I was looking for. I got great service.

You probably already know this, FWIW, but your 85 car should already have a grey wire running under the drivers seat, back to the rear quarter, for a quarter-mounted retractable. In 85 they ran the wire anyway like 84 and earlier which had the quarter mount, but used the windshield antenna.
