Mystery Washer - Need Help Identifying
Well I’m finally starting reassembly on my 86.5 auto motor mount / pan gasket project.
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ct-w-pics.html
Everything is clean (relatively) and ready to go back together but I have a couple washers that puzzle me.
Here are most of the fasteners involved in this job.
Here is the mystery washer.
It is metal (belleville) with rubber appearing to be permanently attached. I don’t remember where it came from and the parts lists don’t seem to mention anything about a rubber washer. Does anyone know where this goes? Also, does the one with the flat side go on a wire clamp?
It almost looks like it was on here but why and where?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi Denny,
I don't have an answer but I will be starting the same project soon. Are those the hard rubber mounts? If so, please post a review. I will be watching this post for progress reports (which will help me out along the way).
Thanks
Drew.

The "D" shaped washer, if I recall correctly, is part of the cable clamp that attaches the 12V cable (from starter to alternator), to the top of the crossmember. It goes under the head of the attaching bolt.
I can't help with the rubber-faced washers, sorry!

when you fit the MMs to the Xmember make sure to check that the lower threaded portion only protrudes about 3 threads or less past the securing nut, otherwise there is a good chance that when you fit the rack the small hard lines will hit the studs and damage your rack.
I dont recognize the rubber flat washer

When you do, keep an eye open for this “mysterious” rubber washer. When things come a part it’s hard to see everything given the amount of crud, grease, grime and goo. I didn’t even notice the “rubber” washer until it was in the parts washer.
I’m sure I’ll find a home for it once I get further into reassembly. I’ll let you know once I do. Or maybe someone else will solve the “mystery” first.
And by the way, the engine hanger pictured in my original post on this project is working great.

What are the dimensions of the rubber coated washer? You don't really have to measure -- a visual would do it if my guess is right. It would be a long shot, but it looks like a sealing washer that is used on the valve covers. Since you didn't notice it til after the dis-assembly, could one of those have been in the oil pan from some previous work?

Been a couple of years since I was in there, but the only bits of rubber I remember encountering were part of the oil level sender mounting in the front of the pan.

IIRC that washer with rubber would go on the front elex fan mounting points under the chassis cross member where the fan mount is connected to the chassis, or the top mountings

I got my solid rubber motor mounts from Roger and they seem to be working just fine. Much smoother than the collapsed mounts. I didn't use spacer washers that came with it. Thought about point loading and such after talking with the guy that did the job with me and we both decided to forgo them. A couple mm of height doesn't matter to me.

the reason to fit the fender washers is to put the engine at the correct level once the weight is placed on the mounts. The washers do matter as without them the engine and all of its associated parts will hang just that much lower.

Roger also happened to mention to us that he didn't use them either so that was good enough to me.
