Default Not a good morning, I wrecked my 928

Looks like now that I finally finished most of my list of preventative maintenance, I get to move on to structural and cosmetic repairs.

Don't know how much damage I've done yet, but below are a couple cell phone pic's. Right fender is gone for sure the hood is also bowed. Hopefully there isn't any structural damage, but the front end alignment is definitely out as the steering wheel is turned to the right when driving straight.

I will probably start pulling parts this weekend to try to evaluate the condition of the chassis. and start making a list of parts.

So I'm at least in the market for a good used right fender and the associated mounting supports, a replacement lights and a hood.......

All suggestion are welcome. I've pretty much done everything mechanical at some point in the past, but this will be my first venture into bodywork.

Any suggestions on who does decent paint work? Anyone near Tulsa,OK?

I don't think it is that bad... have an accident ALWAYS SUCKS, but I have seen worse! When I got side swiped it took out every panel on the passenger side of my car plus all four wheels. Everything had to be redone from the front bumper cover to the rear bumper cover (inclusive) on that passenger side. For goo measure I had them shoot the drivers rear QTR too... Cost??? Are you sitting down? Close to $10k! For that I really should have been able to get the WHOLE car shot, but it is what it is! Car looks GREAT now and they will stand behind their work.

You will get this all back together! Don't go through an insurance company though. They would certainly just total the car...well, don't go through YOUR insurance...if it was another drivers fault then you will be in good shape.

Keep us posted on the repair progress! Sorry this happened, but glad no one was hurt!

How did the accident happen? I having to do a tremendous amount of work to get the front end of my Turquoise car straightened out from a PPO (Previous Previous Owner) "minor" accident. PPO ran over a parking sign, so the story goes, come to find out the car has been pushed about 2 inches out of square. Though the body work looked fine, panels lined up, when the engine was pulled later for rebuild the nastiness presented. Has been a very painful and expensive fix.

Good luck.

I am curious to know how it happened as well. Just so the rest of us can attempt to avoid the same senario.

Good luck with the repair though!!

That's unfortunate!

The first thing you should try is find out, if there is any damage to the structural elements of the car.

One way to do this is making the Porsche recommended measurements of the body. Another one - probably less precise - is to try and get the car aligned.

Then you know what's damaged, and what might be required in getting things fixed.

Take it and have an alignment done. If it align's you are in real good shape. The 928 is very hard for even a good body guy to pull back straight.

okay here are the details of the accident. I was headed North in the left lane and making a left. ther was a van in the south bound left lane also making a left. as I approached knowing the van was making a left and I could see past it and see that the right south bound lane was clear so figuring I would turn simultaneously with the van and we would pass in front of each other. there was a Toyota pickup that was also in the left lane approaching the back of the van as the van turned left the as I and the van both started to turn left I saw the Toyota veer right to go around the van in the right lane at that time I knew I was not going to be able to make it across the intersection in time and got on the brakes. The Toyota as it moved to the right past the van then saw me and got on the brakes and came to a crashing halt as the center of the grill hit the passenger side front corner of my car.
So needless to say since I was turning left it was my fault. I should have known better, but.... that,s the way it goes. At least I was able to drive it back home.

I've started pulling things loose so I can get to the chassis and see if there is any underlying damage. Don't quite have the fender off yet I'll get it the rest of the off in the morning.

Any suggestions on what and how to check if the chassis is still straight? I have the manuals and believe there are some chassis dimensions in there to reference in the case of an accident, but all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

The fender is gone, the hood is permanently bowed and the front bumper cracked out of the corner of the brake duct. But of all things the front spoiler seem to have survived aside from just a touch of tire rub on the drive home.

I'll keep this thread update as get further into it. I'm sure once I get the bent metal out of the way I'll have some specific questions when I get to the evaluation stage.

Most importantly, no one was hurt.

Hope you get it fixed and back on the road in no time!

Michael
