I'm having a strange problem following DR's install instructions; when I try to install the updates I get an error that says something about "access denied" to C:\PET\DATA\PO\update\temp. I downloaded from the first set of links.
Anyone else having this problem with XP SP3?

Here is the download link for PET 7 (not 7.1). http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YTLVETN7
This may help others like it did for Tom with those having 64bit WIN7 issues.
BTW it is only 1 file to download (206megs) and for a 928er would have all the same functions needed as 7.1.

is this legal
Call me ignorant but is this a legal and non-copyrighted version of PET?
I recall that PET used to be available only in cracked versions?! Will the PAG lawyers come crawling out of my internet connection once I download the Russian version and do the first update? Sorry if this has been covered before.

You might be OK using Pet 7.1, if you never allow it to update or communicate with the internet. If you allow it to update, they will have a record of you using it. They have already made it very clear that they are eventually going to come and get you, if they can show you have used it.

This seems like a FREE friendly service from Porsche for its loyal parts buying customers
and it seems one only need pay for the CD version.
for other years

The 7.1 versions, out there, are bootleg copies, stolen from Porsche, according to my Porsche dealer. I have been given several copies, from several people, including one of my Porsche parts guys (no longer at the dealer I use.) He wrote specific instructions on how to load it, without letting it ever update or "talk" to the internet, in case I ever wanted to load it. He said that Porsche was very upset about people using it and then using Porsche's private system to update the information. He claimed that they were "collecting" the user names and going to come after the people that violated the copyright agreement.
Read the copyright agreement carefully.

If I were boss at Porsche I would simply be too embarrassed to sue anybody. Porsche has made fundamental error by making software which do not have any kind of user access control build into it. What they really expected to happen? Every single PET version ever made has been hacked and spread over internet to probably tens of thousands illegimate users. And now they release version which apparently allows anyone to mess with their source data. Sheer stupidity of decision like that is just mind blowing.

BTW, I highly doubt Porsche will come after the individual - it would be one of the dumbest corporate moments in history if they did. Right now IMO the number one dumbest corporate gaffe is when Disney decided they couldn't allow some of their heavier customers ride "It's a small world" attraction because the boats were bottoming out. So instead they gave free concession coupons to those they booted from the queue. "Sorry, you're too fat for this ride. Have an ice cream on us!"
