Andre, reach under there with the car settled on the suspension, parking brake set and trans in neutral. Ramps or a curb make this next step a lot easier... reach up and rotate the inner flange(trans output flange) on each side in both directions to see if there is a lot of play. By doing it with the halfshaft in its normal operating position you can gauge the true amount of wear. Move the shafts laterally, toward and away from the trans as you check for rotational play. Jack the car up and the CVs leave the wear grooves and tighten up -- can be misleading.

Anyway, if there is not much play, you may be able to get away with cleaning and repacking.

Repacked the inner halves and got a trip to the ER while cutting gaskets (with my garage door closed). Car sounds fantastic with uncapped CAT! Topped off the oil in the gearbox (maybe as much as 1 quart low )

CV joints are the Rubik's cube on the 928!

Great news! Blue ***** is not a good thing. Neither is a bent shaft.

"... got a trip to the ER while cutting gaskets ..."

Andre, I certainly hope that wasn't really a serious problem!

Good work.
Sorry to hear about the OR.
Hopefully not a near-Bobbitt.
That would be an order of magnitude worse, IMO, then having blue ones.

As long as its still presentable you might be ok.

If individually bandaged, maybe you're actually advantaged.
