What kind of baffle is this? Never seen one like it before.

I've never seen anything like that before. Is it made of plastic or painted black? The design looks interesting, the openings on the right hand side look like they would catch the moving cloud of oil and condense it back to the pan. Is this out of your 89 S4?

It's an interesting kind. I see it's asked to do some scraper duty as well, which it'll probably achieve as long as it kisses the crank close enough. However, I don't see it using the force of windage to pump oil into the deep, front part of the sump. Also, it's not clear from the photo how well it will do in a tilt test (simulating acceleration). Where did you get that photo?

It is an original part, part nr. 928.107.139.06, can't find it in PET. Maybe it was a test item, not made for production.

It is available on Ebay in Germany, location is about one hour away from me. Bidding starts at 500 Euro, so I'm not going to bid. I did email the seller to sell me the just the baffle. If anybody wants to bid on the whole thing, including the pan go ahead, just let me have a crack at just the baffle if the seller sells separately. Frankly at that price I would be amazed if he would get a single bid.

Here are the pics for our archives. Interesting piece eh?

Oil pan looks like early S4 style. There is no clearance for later style oil pressure sender and there is still old style oil feed hole at left front corner but its covered. Maybe this is some CS proto part. In any case price is too expensive unless idea is to sell copies of it. Which might be bad idea. There has to be reason why all S4 and later cars do not have it. It doesn't look very complex to do. If it were really helpful factory would have used it in production.

928 107 139 06 is just one number away from the GTS baffle (928 107 139 07).

Boats do have pretty massive lean angles into turns so the oil would slosh around quite a bit.

Not really. Boats are like bikes. There isn't very much lateral acceleration. All the oil gets forced straight down since the hull leans.
