I am not sure what this thread is about, did the car sell, did the first buyer back out?

Doesn't seem right that he can leave negative feedback but my son is looking into fixing that.

All I can say is I hope my 4 year old son grows up to be as nice a guy and gentleman as Scott is.
I've already learned of your fine reputation in just the few weeks I've been on here and I certainly know where he gets it from.
Whenever I do get it together and get my 928, I will be coming to you for any parts. I wish I could have secured everything sooner but it just wasn't meant to be.
Thank you for taking the time with my brother as well. Hope you are all staying dry.
Best,
Michael

The first winning bidder on ebay did not follow up after the sale was over and did not respond to my son's request. Days later and after missing the deadline to paypal a deposit he requested an inspection. It was too late at that point and my son had already relisted it.

Sadly many view a "winning bid" as a first right of refusal and try to renegotiate the deal after the "sale" closes. The negative feedback is used as a bargaining chip ! One learns much about human behavior when selling on E-bay.

Wow, sounds incredible that it takes 3 attempts to sell for 10.000$ a 1991 S4 with this kind of maintenance history. Guess the US market is pretty low atm.
Check out for example this junk, for which the owner had a reserve higher then 10.000$ http://cgi.ebay.de/Porsche-928-S-4_W...item1e59cf1a93

Not really relevant to this thread specifically but one could make a very strong case to uphold the Anderson business ethic as a prime example of one that should be followed and would hopefully result in a long term sustainable business . (In my humble opinion ).
Of course it doesn't fit with the modern business principal of huge growth in share price - but if you were to invest some of your pension money when you were 30 years old and just rely on dividend income over the years - then to my somewhat oldfashioned mind a business run on the Anderson lines would be where I am going.

I certainly will agree with you. I knew they were special in pretty short order. Timing just wasn't going to happen and as much as I wanted that car, I also didn't feel it was fair to make Scott wait any longer to finally sell it. Unfortunately a dealer bought it (I don't begrudge profit) and will mark it up above and beyond his transport costs.
Warning somewhat rambling and
As far as how to run a business and modern business principles, I work for a larger Japanese company's U.S. subsidiary. While we don't do things the way some companies do for shareholders (worldwide, say like banks or some retailers), our revenue is huge compared to 10 years ago-but our margins are far, far lower and we are getting killed in the U.S. by a strong Yen.
Plus we have rising costs of human resource (nobody wants to work for the same wage they made 10 years ago if their costs are not the same as 10 years ago) and healthcare and taxes are only increasing. Plus we reinvest in growth and R&D. We still have to issue debt (bonds) and have to cover that too.
But we have top-notch support (still free with toll-free telephone numbers) are top ranked for repairs and, for the most part, interact very well with our customers worldwide, even in the world of internet forums like this one (think of the worst that happens here and multiply by 1000).
At the end of the day if we don't turn a profit tens of thousands could be without a job.
When you have a handful of people in your organization you have to be responsive and part of the community. You have to feed your family (and Porsche racing habits) but the Anderson's from all I have experienced first hand and from what I've read go above and beyond. For that they will be sustainable and we are all rather lucky we have people with this passion in this community on both the buyer and seller end.
So back to the topic at hand-great people but there are always some jerks on eBay who will ruin a reputation x post facto.

Threadsurrection...
Bought the car from the next owner...a collector who let it sit...no miles have been put on since January 2010.
Now to change the fluids and fuel lines!!
Car arrives some time next week or the following (with Memorial day coming!)

Well there you have it. I’ve always lived by the motto “You never can should have done anything” and you just proved that wrong!
Congrats … and … looking forward to pics.
