Maybe reworking the valve body?

BTW here in SoCal we have at LEAST half a dozen guys named Mike with a 928.
The main reason on choosing an automatic gearbox is the constant load that the turbine needs. If I used a manual transmission, everytime I shift, it would release the load from the turbine allowing it to "over run" (its like over reving an engine) and that would destroy the turbine. That would also be the case if I shifted the gearbox into neutral.

On the exhuast issue: the exhaust comes out of that stack at over 400mph. The only time the exhaust would be an issue is if I could get fast enought to match that speed (which I will not) and the other issue is during a very cold day, you'ld be able to see the heat signature coming out of the stack :-)

Thanks for checking out my horns and airraid sirens. People don't realize that it is very to get these large brass/bronze ship horns.

Good stuff!

My wife made me turn the volume down while I watched your videos.

Welcome, great project there Mike. I'm sure you would be most welcome at the next Sharktoberfest, an annual 928 get-together held every October in Anaheim, should you care to stop by.

BTW, given your "horn hobby" I'm not surprised your User ID is shouting...

Just Awesome Mike!
How's the throttle response? Can you maintain constant 50 MPH or are you on/off the throttle?

Funny, my wife came into our study, where I was watching the video, holding her ears asking what that noise was. I didn't think it was that loud, but that jet noise really carries... and annoys...

There is some lag at start up, but if you load the torque converter, lag in not felt. You can maintain the vehicle at any speed, no need for trottle modulation.

That is the craziest 928 project I've ever seen or heard of.

I always imagined them as being sluggish because it takes time to spool-up, but looking at your video, it seems the automatic makes-up for that.

Could you manually shift down when you are braking, so that the turbine is allowed to rev higher?

Finally a solution that will make windshield wipers obsolete. I've been waiting for that for years.

Maybe it can defrost at the same time. Not in SoCal, but our frieinds in colder climates may appreciate the idea.

What's the dB output of this monster NASA Horn?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Maso...eature=channel

SPL @ 1METER (3.28') is 162.68. SPL @ 500 feet is 118.92 @ 100Hz.

This test was done using 250psi (minimum air pressure) not 500psi (ideal working air pressure) in an attempt to see if the Hz would change at lower pressure.

More about the "N.A.S.A" horn:

this is a reverberant chamber horn used by NASA. Reverberant chamber is unique to NASA and the USAF for testing full-size aerospace components at high levels of sound pressure.
The noise in the chambers can be shaped to match the specifications of space shuttle and rocket launches, aircraft structural excitation, engine nacelle noise, unsteady turbulent airflows, and the acoustic test specifications required for military equipment sold on domestic and export markets. This flexibility has made it possible for to test satellites, satellite payload equipment, airframes, and aircraft components . Simply put, there is a enclosed room with this horn's opening bolted to the wall with the opening of the horn facing in. They would place the object they would want to test in that room, seal it up, and fire up this monster for a given lenght of time to see if it can handle the extreme low harmonics from this horn. The only problem is, the walls also started falling apart.
This horn has a working pressure between 250-500psi. The squealing at the begining of each honk is normal. There is an exhaust port at the back of the power chamber housing to allow the titanium and tungsten diaphragm to vibrate at high pressure supply). This horn is 7' 5" long, and is 282lbs. This horn is no longer in used because (and is belived to be the only one that has survied the scrap yard). The mortar of the test building started coming apart from the testing that was done over the years.
