Default HID foglights ballast locations

Hi guys,
I already did a search but could not find the answers. I am trying to convert the foglights on my 87 S4 to HID. I figure converting the headlights might not come out satisfactory with the beam pattern and I probably will get pulled over. I took out the foglights and hit a wall. I need to get behind the bumper nose to tap into the foglight wires and mount the ballasts. What will be the easiest route? Should I go from the wheelwell taking out the panels, or taking out the front black rubber spoiler, or other route?
Thanks,
Steve

I don't know, but aren't you supposed to figure that out before buying the parts that don't fit?

I saw these 9004 digital HID kit on eBay.. They have a built-in light shield and hi/low using halogen bulb for high beam.

Here's the listing..

I mounted the ballasts behind the front bumper cover on the install I did.

I have 8"H4 HID on all my cars and have yet to be pulled over and harrassed about them. I actually stopped at one accident as I was the second car there and I stopped on the road with my lights left on. The 3rd vehicle on scene was an off duty cop. I said I should probably turn off my headlights, and just pu my foglights on he asked me to leave them on because they were really nice lights.

Of course these will fit. I already know I am mounting these behind the bumper cover. I am asking what will be the easiest route to get behind the bumper.

I don't know what you mean about "in the bumper cover" - you don't want anything in the bumper cover - mount them in the front fender area (area under the headlights) right at the front - this is right behind the fogs and where they connect now.

Take off the front wheels and remove the wheel liners and front splash shields (both unbolt). You will probably have to drill a new hole in the back of the fog light housing for the new grommet (make sure you know where there is clearance behind - (through the aluminum bumper support). You can mount the ballasts on the front end of the inner fender wall using the provided hangers (existing bolts there).

You may find you need to adapt the reflector even on the fogs.... (eg blank off some areas with black vinyl - bottom area)

So Colin, I supposed you got access to behind the bumper from the wheelwell route?

"in the bumper cover"? Yeah, what do you mean by that? So great, you got behind the foglights from the wheelwell and that will be what I will do then.
Thanks for the tips, guys.
