Greg,
Why you would think that I would sell anything like that is beyond me 8>).
The coolers are repaired, tested, cleaned and painted. All work done by a local FAA heat exchanger repair shop here in Dallas. My core charge is for the return of the old leaking cooler so it can be recyled.

Roger:

That's great....exactly what I was hoping for. I'm sure none of the other guys that sell "used" pieces bother to do this, so it was important to clarify for all the other "Rennlisters" that you can't slap any old used cooler onto an engine. "Rebuilt" to some of these guys is a fresh coat of paint....

Rennlisters: Always make sure you are comparing apples with apples, when buying used or new pieces!

Roger's rebuilt cooler is a great value!

Now for the obvious:

Did I word my post poorly, so that you needed to be so defensive? If so, please accept my apology.

However, I don't read that in my post....so I'd ask that you please "bring it down" a bit.

Just 'cause I haven't "jumped on the Porken Tensioner bandwagon" doesn't mean that I'm personally attacking you or your business...it just means that I'm not yet convinced that his piece is the "only answer" to tensioning the belt.....as he so clearly believes. Note that I never said that the tensioner was "junk" or that it didn't work....I simply have 4-5 unanswered questions that need to be addressed, before I strap them onto my engines. These questions have still not been answered by any empirical data....just answered by retortic statements followed by other contradicting statements.

Rest assured that gathering of this data and complete testing of this tensioning device is being done....on two coasts....as I write this. I have a brand new unit in my shop and there is already another being looked at and tested on the east coast.

I will be starting a complete new thread about this testing and the data gathered. My hope is that this tensioner will prove to be everything that others think it is...and that I too can benefit from its use!

But as the bank robber in Dirty Harry said:

"I gots to know".

...especially before I bolt it on!

Greg,
I was pulling your chain - just a friendly joke - that's why I put a smiley next to the comment.
I am with you on everything and do fully understand where you are coming from - no issue - nothing nada.
Back to normal service.
The coolers look really good when they come back from the rebuilders. Sold about 10 of them so far.
I have four in stock and a couple of cores ready for rebuild.
Best,
Roger

Do they have the ability to fix ones that leak, or are they just trash?

Greg,
All the cores I get are usually leakers so yes they repair and seal them.
Jim Mayzurk found the source for me when he had a leak on his own cooler.
Takes about a week for turn around.

I replaced the o-rings successfully. I got a couple new ones, easily removed the flaking, black paint from the mating surfaces (down to the metal). Clean it up nice/shiny. Installed the new o-rings, secured the lines at the ends of the oil with Loctite (med. strength) and torqued securely.

I drove the car up to SITM and back....arrived home only to find the oil leak is back.

Any suggestions on improving the connection so that I don't have to repeat my efforts a 3rd time?

Thanks for any help you guys can be.

I have small bought boxes of assorted O rings from a local hardware outlet for a few $ - stuff from 2 to 12+mm ID. I would happily use these in normal mineral oil conditions without concern. Only in special cases would I go out of my way to get specials - eg Viton for high temp cases, or for Aircon fittings.
Nicholas - I suspect it might be pretty hard to be sure your leak is from the O ring area, and not from a crack somewhere else on the cooler ....

Hi Nicholas, still love the color combo of your car.

Would Greg Brown's new radiator design obviate the need for this cooler and connections? I believe so. Could be worth the wait though I know you have one of the new CR radiators. For me, I'd get one of Greg's and sell the CR. Not the most fiscally conservative thing but certainly the one with the best functional outcome.

jpitman2, I removed the oil cooler and had it leak tested a few months back when I got my first leak. It tested OK. I paid good money for the correct part# replacement from one of the Big 3's.

S4ordie, I'll have to check into that idea as I wasn't aware of a "new design" by G.B.....interesting. Thanks again for the kind words regarding my color combo.

Thanks guys for trying to help.

Any others care to recommend something?

No, haven't had much time to give her the attention she deserves lately. This summer I hope to tackle that and some new leaks that popped up (transmission, differential, and gas).....fun times.

I am about to remove my oil cooler on the GTS, I have a leak somewhere near the o-rings, but not sure it is them yet. Question, I have fresh oil in the engine, can I open the connection with oil still in engine? How much of a mess will that be? How much will come out?

Thanks.

my experience, has been, that full engine oil is no problem. only the oil in the cooler should come
out, and yes, it is a bit messy, but not too bad. after pulling back the hoses from the cooler, I would elevate the
hoses as best you can for whatever is in the lines.

I took my cooler to an old school, one man band, radiator shop and had it pressure tested. small leak fixed and
back on the road with no issues. you could just put in new O rings and check, and that may solve your issue, but
also might be a good idea to take it our and get it tested, best of luck.
