You can use the 32V'r to set/reset the cam timing directly. It has been shown to be as good as using a dial indicator (or better).

I had both a dial indicator set (PITA to use) and the 32V'r. I sold the former tool and I count the latter instrument (PorKen's) as one of my most important 928-specific tools, after the belt tensioner.

I doubled checked the marks just to make sure. I also did my best to align the new gears to match the old ones. Put it all together and all seems well. Very pleased to hear the engine purring again! Test drive tomorrow but all looks good. There was a bolt that was missing. It goes through the center TB cover to the water pump. Would anyone know that size of that bolt? One last thing; the 20" belt is the answer for the air pump removal (fan belt alternative). Thanks all!!!

Find a local who has a 32vr and use it to get the cam timing correct. Putting the new gear on using the calibrated eyeball index method will get you close. Using the tool will get it correct. Roger sells the tool if you can't borrow one locally. Difference between 'eyeball close' and correct can be several degrees, and that can be a bunch of power left on the table.

The lower front cover bolt is a 6 x 73 usually ACE hardware has these, put some sealant on the bolt when you install it

I think an oilpan bolt will work. Can't remember whether or not it needs cutting.

500 miles and all is good. I did notice that my PS pump is making noise when cold. I put new fluid in after the TB job. I did notice the fluid appeared to have bubbles or foam in the reservoir during the time when the pump was making the noise. Maybe the pump is going out?

Did you replace the reservior? There's a filter in it, too.

No, same reservoir but new fluid DEXII compatable. Didn't know about the filter. Maybe that's the problem.

you should get a bolt into the timing cover, as it will begin to leak coolant at some point add some PTFE pipe sealant to the threads

the spacer in the timing cover can fall out as its a separate piece
