Visiting LA - Things to see and do and where to drive my rental 'Vette?
List,
As per the title, I am visiting LA on business next week and will stay over for weekend - 4Dec/6Decs. Can you suggest things to do and see. I would imagine the list would include Hollywood, Sunset Blvd, Beverley Hills and then what? Any museums or other places of interest?
I have rented a 'Vette from Hertz, thus any suggestions for good driving roads would also be appreciated...
Thanks in advance,
Alex

I was there in Oct and took a spin through Palos Verdes on a Sunday afternoon. Quite scenic, was also fun to stop at some open houses ... a bit out of my price range, but my wife was amused at one who's price had just been reduced by $1M!

I took my Dad to Las Vegas as an 80th birthday present a few weeks ago.
after a couple days of losing in the casinos , I rented a Hertz Vette and we went on a couple day trips around the area. I enjoyed the Vette. my Dad asked if I now wanted to buy one?
if I had the $50+K for one, I would search for a great 928 S4/GT 5sp, sorted out, up to date, and SC'ed. have money left over for more parts for my 911 track car, a trailer, and spending money for next years track expenses.
in full disclosure, I wanted to rent a Lambo or Ferrari, but way too much $$. on the Vegas strip, I saw a yellow Lambo Gallardo spyder, a ferrari ? mid-engine V12 convertable, and a Lambo Murcielago convert all stopped together at a light. then they all roared south out of town..... sigh.

I knew someone would suggest a track day. I am actually treating the rental as a test drive. Have had my sights on Z06 for a while... Will sell the Z4MC to buy a Vette, then I would have 32 cylinders and 5.4ltr + 4.7ltr + 4.4ltrs + 7ltr = 21.5lts of capacity , 1425bhp and World Domination

I would start at 7AM Saturday at Cars & Coffee
http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpos...85&postcount=3
Then you could cruise down 133 to Laguna Beach and turn right, and take Pacific coast highway up to the 55 freeway in Newport Beach. Then I would head inland, and you could either drive all the way out to San Bernardino and do the Rim of the World Drive, as done at Sharktoberfest 2005, 2008, and 2009:
https://rennlist.com/forums/5917009-post34.html
Or you could leave Irvine, go up 405 N to 605N to 210E, and do the run up thru the San Gabriels north of Azusa- this was the route for SF06:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...7&ie=UTF8&z=12
Of course, as a reality check make sure that all these roads are open, first:

Sunday the 6 th is the Pomona auto swap meet a huge gathering of cars and parts from 5 am till 2 pm Yes it happens very early ! Not much Porsche any more but lots of Corvettes and hundreds of hotrods all for sale. The Peterson is a great car guy place well worth seeing. The Saturday morning Cars and Coffee in Orange County always has some interesting cars on display. That gets you South for a run over to the ocean , Laguna Beach then head north on the coast Hwy thru Corona Del Mar , Newport Beach etc.

You gotta go down and check out the Santa Monica Pier and Venice beach area...its almost a prerequisite to go and watch some of the crazies when you're in LALA land!!

I think Rob has some great ideas there... do drive on the PCH... after all you are on the California coast...! if you have time drive further up the coast to the north...
Once you've seen enough ocean head inland on I10 to the San Bernadino Mts and do the Rim of the World drive... great scenic views & nice driving... maybe go all the way up to Big Bear Lake...
watch for snow though ...

Yeah, you could go down 133 to Laguna Beach, turn right and just stay on Pacific Coast Highway all the way back to L.A., though in my biased opinion the most scenic part is between Seal Beach and Laguna Beach. Feel free to skip Long Beach in its entirety.

If you take PCH South you can head into San Clemente and have lunch there. If you head down there try to hit Ortega Highway in the early morning, great road and scenery. You can also head into Temecula for wine tasting if you go across Ortega Hwy.
If you have some real time on your hands go to Mt. Palomar with that vette and burn up some rubber and brakes.
I Miss living in SoCal.
