Is this for track, or general cruising and driving?

Because if not for serious track, why would you want aftermarket seats, when you already have some of the best car seats ever made, already in your car?

I put genuine GT3 seats in my manual 928 but don't go for long drives with them, they can get to be a pain you know where. Very easy to fit in a late model car but not so easy in the early cars like ours.

Ducman82,

This is an old pic, will try to find some better ones. They are the Momo Street Racers and are a good aftermarket seat for the street, autocross etc.. Great lateral support as compared to stock seats (even the sport seats) for spirited driving , especialy on curvy mountain roads. Yet they are still comfortable for longer trips. Since they still recline like the stock seats they are not recommended for real racing use.

general driving (mt roads, maybe some light autocross). i could get the stock ones redone, but they would need new foam and leather, and it would be cheaper to get two new momo'ish seats.

From Jim Morton's GTS in the member to member classifieds...Best looking aftermarket seat I've seen in a 928 IMHO.

Good way to unload a 100lbs.

I like the Corbeau VX2000 and am about to put them in my street car. http://www.corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats/vx2000/
I have the Sparco Evo3 in my track car.

I am kind of with Paul on this one... there are few seats as comfortable as the stock 928 seats... you can read any of the original reviews on 928's and they are ALWAYS praised for how comfortable and supportive the seats are.

If you need something for Auto-X or DE's or if you are VERY tall and need some extra head room then get something newer... if not recover the factory seats. You know how changes effect value on 928's. Just look at how low the value of $6k+ of supercharger additions are to these cars... While seats are easier to change why not spend the money towards make the stock car better.

The weight loss makes almost no difference if you are not seriously tracking the car so that is probably not a significant factor at all.

Early 928 manual seats weight about 30 pounds each. That would make your Corbeau at minus 40 pounds for the set

I want some clothes like those seats Paul! About 40lbs would be the right amount for me to lose too! LOL!

I have a Recaro SRD for track days and ORR. Gives me enough room to wear a helmet comfortably (I'm 6'-01"). Reclines and moves fore/aft. However, I find it uncomfortable for everyday driving. Eventually I just get a sore lower back, and you can't really move around much. But when I'm cinched down with a 5-pt harness, it's great!

BTW, Jim has the same Recaro in his GTS as pictured above, only in leather...very nice!

Here's a couple pics for comparison. 1st is next to the stock 1980 drivers seat, 2nd is installed in the 1980 ex-Callaway turbo.

I was speaking more of those 70lb (or so) electric versions.

The trick with after mkt seats is mounting them to be adjustable while not raising the height of the seat so high your head sticks out the sunn roof.
