Half of the people with S cars are in the market for a good used one.

Anyone know what makes them so expensive? Is it complicated to make, low volume or what the market will bear?

Yeah, I'll take a few used ones too.

I'd be happy to buy a broken one that has the PS intact. A new one is a budget buster for me right now.

What makes them so expensive? They're easy to break, and the car looks like **** until it gets replaced. I doubt you'll find a used one in serviceable condition.

I have no idea what makes them so expensive and I agree with your aesthetic observations.

Separately, I would mend mine if I had the PS section complete to the middle of the car.

Hi All,

My front spoiler was broken on each curve. The previous owner riveted it together. Boy, did that look like crap. I removed it and fixed it with the polyurethane flex repair from 3M. Its a 2 part epoxy that is used to repair urethane bumpers.

I used a flexible metal bracket behind it. You know, the metal bracket with the slots in it that you get when you buy a new car stereo. Bends easy. I lightly sanded the plastic surface, applied the epoxy to the inside and embedded the bracket. It bonds in 5 minutes and can be sanded in 15 minutes. Sands easy. Then I filled in the outside holes. Sanded it down smooth and used a black plastic dye to finish. It looks perfect. Saved myself 400 bucks. I should have taken pictures but its back on the car. You can also fix it while its on the car if its not too bad. Good Luck.

Across the alley from Precision in Anaheim is a place that makes urethane spoilers, and I talked with the guy a couple times about a 928 spoiler. He seemed sort of interested, but may not have understood a word I said.

Two issues come to mind;

Factory spoiler lasts a fairly long time and isn't in the Porsche scheme of things all that expensive.

Duplicating the factory spoiler doesn't excite me. I'd want to change the design so the lip that sticks down is cheap and easy to replace, more air flow etc.

The set up costs to produce the spoiler are probably the stumbling block.
I had a sale earlier this year and looking back have sold about 35 of them.
That is not a lot of volume.
Price from Porsche is about $550.
OEM is $400 or cheaper.

Not to threadjack the OP, but right now all budget is going to mechanical (WP/TB, master and slave clutch cylinders). Ordinarily, I would think $150-$200 would be a fair price for an intact used one.

I bought a very nice used one from Rixter about two years ago. He had acquired a car and I hit him up before he even announced he was parting it out. They go fast!

I paid $200, which I thought was a very good price. Shipping was about $100, but I think people have had success since then rolling them up and fitting them in smaller boxes to bring the shipping price way down.

Was it last year that our vendors all bid on a group buy for members that got a new OEM one down to a bit over $300? Maybe see how many people need them and if a group buy can be worked again.

Are you following all of this Jakkq?

Thanks Matt. Something to consider when I am ready. $200 bucks seems fair. Maybe Ryan and Jakkq can make it happen. After thinking about it, I also think Roger's price is a good one, considering it is for Porsche body part.

yeah well i would sell mine for $200 and then buy one from Roger for $400

But mines not intact its cracked under the passenger side brake duct but I was going to repair it.

Someone mentioned specifically damaged ones.

To get a uniform color on a refurbished spoiler, i would buy a can or two of "bumper coating" (this is made by SEM and duplicolor) and put that on there, would really clean up the thing. Its a much more subtle truck bed coating so to speak.
