Should Porsche come out with a "new" 928?
#31
i voted no
there should be only one, and knowing the political atmosphere in the auto production world today i doubt they could build a car that would live up to the notoriety that the original did.

It is a self-selection thing. Like polls where the questions are: "Do you like big chests? Or do you like really big chests?" Obviously you're not going to get folks that like flat or moderate chests participating in that poll.
What you described above is an ice-breaker. A conversation starter.
Walking up to a guy or gal with a 928 and saying: "I bought one of those new and it was a piece of crap..."
Not so much a conversation starter, that
Seriously though, I have talked with folks that bought 928s new or almost new. More than 20 less than 50. I don't remember exactly. I *have* had folks walk up and tell me how much they disliked their 928s. They didn't handle like a Porsche (as in "nothing I did would make the car crash bassackwards into a wall"), or they broke too damn often (true, 928s had a LOT of infant mortality with various parts during their first couple of years of service thanks to poor supplier quality control on Porsche's part) or they broke and the Techs couldn't fix them (huh... where have I heard that before...)
The folks that DID tell me how much they missed them pretty much had the same story: "The 928 was a super-car that you could drive every day. To work. To the store. Across the country. To a 5-star dinner joint. I didn't realize that until I sold it and bought a <insert higher-priced Italian hyper-car>."

Should Porsche make a two door GT? Sorry, they already do, and it's called a Carrera. If you don't think so, go drive a current model. Heck, if you really want to confuse yourself go drive a Cayenne GTS.
Should Porsche make a front engine, rear transmission, 2 +2, two door GT similar to the 928 using the Panamera platform. Why not? But if they do, Put it on the track and show what Porsche can do with more than six cylinders! GT1? Touring Cars?

The design elements of the 87-95 models are still desirable. Clean up the electronics, reduce the
weight ( The freaking doors alone weigh as much as a smartcar) factory 19" or 20" wheels, update the cockpit and make
it maintenance friendly. 400+ hp, 911 entry price. I'm there.

Unless that car is ver very big the image does not offer a realistic roof line for anyone over 6 ft tall.

"IF" Porsche were to remake the 928 i think they should do as has been done for 40 odd years with the 911 , that is to slightly alter/update the original look and basic shape of the 928 but remain true to its lineage . Not completely redesign from scratch a new car . ^^^ that look awesome but , not like a 928 !
The body looks Panamera two door with a 911 roof line .

Anyone find the details on the new Lexus supercar ironic? Front engine, v (yes 10), torque tube to rear transaxle, more refined than the major (Ferarri) competition, pure rwd...
If I can just cut 300 more pounds off, and get the motor up another chunk of hp... I'm kinda sorta distant less civilized kin, for ~$300k less.
