Hopefully, texting while driving will soon be illegal everywhere. The movement has already started.

Up here, a while back, a bunch of cheerleaders were killed 'cause the driver of one car was texting to folks in the car behind.

It's all Chlorine in the Gene Pool until someone innocent gets killed because someone else was texting while driving. Then, as far as I'm concerned, it should be considered manslaughter.

Reminded me of my early racing days with my built in podium motorola cell phone. I would have the stereo on, answer phone calls and talk during the races to buddies wanting live "racer updates" of the weekend. However, my video was real but I was only talking and listening on the track, not baking cookies

The knitting with the "anti G" blanket was the give away. Before that, it almost had me.

I once tried to freak out other people sharing the track with me by fixing a "map" of the circuit to my dashboard in full view so I wouldn't "get lost" out there

In fairness to being able to do two things at once, quite a few race series (I know the V8s in Australia and the Touring Cars here in Britain) will interview drivers in-car, although that's usually under safety car rather than full-attack.

Sometimes, though, the commentator proves to be the least distraction a driver has to deal with

Is that not the very definition of manslaughter? Unknowingly killing someone through one's actions while knowing those actions could pose a danger to others. And I'm not even a lawyer

I knew it wasn't real because Ferrari radio only receives Pavaroti.

I remember hearing a story told by Graham Hill. They didn't have time to remove the radio before one of the races. He says he got bored and turned it on and found the station they were broadcasting the race on. Claims it was the first time a driver had gotten information about the race live in the car, otherwise they used signs on the pit wall.

It was actually Stirling Moss winning the TT in 1961, using someone else's Ferrari 250 GT which was their actual road car - hence it had a radio and everything!

You would think. But apparently laws are needed to enforce what should be common sense. In short: "No one told me texting was dangerous!" From that idiotic statement (or outright lie) all else follows and ends up with needing a law on the books.

I think he should have had a 7" DVD screen pop out of the dash and then grab a guitar and start playing Guitar Hero on it...
