Yes my friend you are correct.......

I was referring to the OP using an older Hub Carrier part......... as the 87 will have ABS and if the HUB carrier is damaged then he would also want to replace this part as well as the wheel flange.
IIRC the 83 Hub carrier doesnt have any opening to fit the ABS sensor, 86.5 on does

Hard to imagine that nut coming loose. Someone must have done some work previously (like half-shaft boots or something like that) and didn't tighten it down properly.

The easiest way I know to tighten it to the ~340 ftlbs is to divide 340 by your weight. In my case, I'm 245: 340/245 = 1.39.

Multiply that by 12 inches (for ft lbs). 1.39 * 12 = 16.65" That tells me I need a lever arm of about ~16 3/4 inches. Mark you lever arm from the center of the nut to that distance and then stand on it. The torque applied will be 340 ft lbs.

DOH! You're right, of course... I misread it.

I found the same thing has happened to me. The shop stated that they can re-weld the hub back to spec. Has anyone else heard of this being a possibility? They are charging 125 to do this. Anyone out there with a rear hub assembly they are willing to part with?

p.s. I know this is an old thread.
