Time for a a new wheel flange and a new bearing, the CV splined axle should be OK, I hope, if not then time to replace that part as well

I really wanted to loose this one Mrmerlin! By wheel flange do you mean the center spindle with the lug nuts? The CV splines are fine I just checked them. Phew..

Dan,I had a problem not unlike yours. The axle nut came loose and as a result damaged the hub and CV mating surface.928 intl.stocked the needed parts. That looks a little bit worse than mine did!

OK
wheel flange = replace
wheel bearing = replace
CV splined shaft if not damaged=reuse
CV securing nut= replace 32mm
Hub carrier( the part the bearing fits into)= if its bore is good then reuse.

Make sure to use heat to remove the old bearing and put the new bearing into the freezer as well as the new wheel flange or Used new to your car wheel flange
Dont forget to replace the E brake cover plate prior to fitting the wheel flange to the new bearing

Read my posts a few posts up. It describes incident that happened last year with the axle nut coming loose.

I don't think its the same as a 87. Does anyone know?

Where are you looking at the 87?

PET6 shows the P/N 928.331.065.07 wheel flange(actually "wheel hub" in PET) fits 78 through 91. There was another wheel hub applicable to 83-86 cars, P/N 928.331.065.07 and this is described as "widening of gauge track".

P.101 of the "prior to 1984" tech bulletins, combined with the info in PET seems to imply that the different P/N may be an assembly with longer studs to allow use of a spacer, but you'll want to confirm with someone who knows for sure, like one of the Big 4... or someone may chime in here.

It would appear that the hub off of an 83 will be the same part as your 87 but you'll want to confirm, maybe with pics.

The Hub carrier will be different on the 83 car as it wont have the ABS sensor adapter so the wheel flange may be all that you can use.
Make sure to refit the E brake spacer plate when you press the Frozen wheel flange into the new bearing.
Use the CV axle and wheel flange to press the wheel flange into place with the CV nut use anti seize to fit these pieces together.

Tips::: freeze the new bearing before fitting it to the heated hub carrier, once its seated let it warm up so the frozen wheel hub will fit into the new bearing and the use the CV axle and nut to press them together

Stan, the ABS ring is a feature on the halfshaft, not the hub flange.
