S4 knock sensor replacement question
I think someone had responded to this question a while ago, but I have a new knock sensor that will be put on the x holbert stroker engine for the one that was really shredded looking . Its the rear one, that you can acatually touch when the maf is off, but can you get a wrench in there to remove it? does that rubber air adapter have to be removed, which has hoses on the sides of it and doesnt look to easy to remove while the stuff is on the engine (intake, etc)
has anyone attempted it before?
that might be one of my issues of lack of expected power for the stroker. that one sensor was pretty ugly looking at the wire section, though the sensor head itself looked ok. the front one was replaced when we put the engine together (bill and I)

Replace both Mark, unless the other one is very new already.

Make sure sensor connector and wiring harness connector are compatible. Later S4 etc use gold plated connectors. Non gold and gold versions will plug right into each other but can have problems later on due to dissimilar metals.

If I remember correctly, the tuning plug comes off the fuse panel right? I've unpluged everthing to pull through the fire wall and I think all that is there is the coding plug, the two computer multipin plugs and the two harness plugs to the right of the fuse panel. I forgot where that other plug bill was looking at that was missing connections was attached to. But, yes, if it is part of the harness, we can fix to shark tune!

Yes, the front one is brand new, well as of the engine build last year, so it is good. so, throttle boot has to come off AND you need small hands too?
Hey Gollum, you out there? will you be at shartoberfest??

I assume you're doing this with the engine out, which is WAY easier
boot will still need to come off, and yes small hands are almost a necessity for this job

I changed mine in place without removing the boot. I did have to loosen the clamp to the throttle body, and was able then to push the wrench under OK and do the deed. Keep in mind that I have "radio announcer's hands" that get in to places where fat-handed folks have problems. With the engine out of the car, it will be a lot easier to get this done, since the firewall won't be in the way of rear access to that area.

Sound like you just got elected to do the job after I buy you a beer or two next saturday, while the engine is out of the car for a brief while!

I'm sure you'll be able to line up a volunteer for that. With the engine out of the car, access is a lot easier. Even if you have to pull the boot out completely it isn't that tough. I think I spent less than an hour total time on the task, first timer, doing it in the car.
