Default Ground Up Restoration

Hi All,

been a while i have not posted.... just busy doing nothing really. Anyways, I have spend a few years fixing this and restoring that in my car, though still i find it hard sometimes to think i really got what i really want...

Easy to explain. I want to have a 928S4 full restored... basically taken back to a bare frame and every piece in it restored or replaced as needed. Additionally, any areas where new technology addresses old woes that can be updated, will be.

My car is loitering in Lebanon right now, i get to drive it occasionally when i am in town, and to be honest it is the coolest car i can drive. Bar None. I want to bring it back and bring it better. Once a full list is determined, the car will be shipped back to the US, there Dan (Exotic) will be in charge of all the mechanicals... not sure about the paint and bodywork, Interior will be Paul.

Here is the list so far, feel free to give me input and ideas. Thanks.

Even after all that expense, you will still have a 20+ year old car. Better to spend it on a used 997 or convert the 928 to all electric, like a Tesla roadster, with 170+km range.

Major electric conversion components/technology is currently off the shelf. Custom fitup is not that difficult on many cars. Problem is cost of long life batteries alone makes it economically unfeasible. High capacity lithium battery prices are dropping very fast, so maybe in a few years it will be economically feasible.

Borland,

i want to keep my V8 and keep it running on gasoline

997 and other new cars are a dime a dozen here and i already have a few high end new cars... 928 is my classic ride, so even though others come and go, it will stay with me and trust me, when you go to a restaurant and see 15+ F430s and 5+ Murcielagos parked outside, you will quickly appreciate the 928. Actually I and everyone i know does.

Porkens tentioner to replace stock tentioner ???

Also if I were spending this much time and $$$ I would do something like if not exactly what this lister did to update his center console.

"Center Console Reconfiguration (FINAL) [sTUpiD Long]"

do a search in the 928 forum...assume work. I don't know how to imbed this.

Wow - Khaled: You really are hard core!

But why do this to a car that has aleady been restored with a lot of money and effort? Why not buy a newer 928 with less miles as a basis for what you want this time?

Have you seen the project that Dan (S4ordie) is doing right now?

Either way, I hope you get what you want this time around.

Heyy Nicole,

long time no talk Have not seen Dan's project, but willing to look and learn. I do not want another 928 as i already have too many cars at this point and i am barely driving the one i have (plus i was told no more cars allowed :-D ). I find it hard to let go of my car, so the best thing is to do everything i want to it.... and do it right. Ground up, not incremental.

Khaled
WOW a very ambitous project.....but I gotta ask...given the expense of transporting your 928 back to the US....then back to Beriut.....and all the $$$ for upgrades......I do think it would be cheaper to find a pristine 91+ 928 here....then modifiy it as you like and ship that over..... I also would spend the extra $$$$ on a 500+ stroker....as its no fun having a cooler car than all the newer exotics....but having a cooler AND faster...is really cool

Default That's the way it should be...

I feel the same way if the funds are not an object than restore/rebuild what you got and enjoy!

Power to you I'll be looking forward to any progress reports and who knows one day I may be able to follow your lead.

Best

Khaled,

My advice....find a very low mileage S4 in perfect condition. Spend the money on updating the mechanicals and perform the maintenance. You will have a perfect car at a much lower price in far less time.

Khaled has an affection for this car, has promised not to buy another car, but doesn't seemed to be limited in what he can do to his current car... seems like you got most of the major stuff on the list, best of luck but I wouldn't expect it back any time soon with that lengthy of a list

The 928 wiring could use an upgrade.
Nice thick wires suitable to the load would be nice.
And with the warmer climate that car will see, I'm sure the 2.5amp Gruner A/C activation relay will get upgraded to higher spec relays.

Enjoy the reborn 928 when she gets done.

Borland, he's got more than enough supercar to drive whenever he feels like.
