Yep, I would say for all that at least 150-200, if the car is mechanically in good shape now.

But could run a lot more.

Khaled - you realize you won't be driving the car for a couple of years to get all that done... So assuming you want to drive a 928 in that time picking up a diffeerent vehicle makes sense anyway...

As we have discussed before it would be easier to get another vehicle thats closer to what you really want...

If I were you that would be the latest lowest mileage 5 speed GTS I could find... I know for you its probably a low mileage pristine '91GT...

Why not find one and do whatever restoration it needs (hopefully a lot less). In the meantime you can drive your car and enjoy it - and later when its all done you for sure can find a good home for it on rennlist OR maybe by then you'll have worked out a deal with the girlfriend...

Could you really be without a 928 for that long... (you know it won't be quick - how long did the complete body respray alone take...?)

Sounds like a cool project!

I am assuming you've seen Sterling's website?

I think the main question will be:
to what extent to you just try to build a brand new S4, v.s.
to what extent to you try to build what you think a S4 should have been, v.s.
to what extent do you try to build a GTS out of your S4, v.s.
to what extent do you build your own vision.
If you are enjoying having an unusual, yet authentic, car then you probably want to stick pretty close to stock, but it is your car, your expense, and your vision so where ever you want to go is legit.

Guys,

wow this has been an interesting thread. I am glad to see some of us are still crazy about our cars. Here are my observations:

- Alan... you definitely know i cannot live too long without driving the 928... so i agree with you, it will be tough not to have one to kick around while building my ultimate version

- Rick, my old friend, yes i love your GT, but it is YOUR GT,..... plus it has big wheels, i like the D90s better :-P

- Dan, i think loving our cars is like a disease in our blood hahaahha for me it is like girls... no matter how much i enjoy the newer ones, there is always that special one that no matter how old she gets, she only gets better in our eyes i guess :-D so money is not an object for this

- As far as A/C is concerned, and help is better than no help. My car cools well, but still not well enough... so exploring improved cooling

- Old wiring harnesses were too heavy and bulky using thick and useless rubber (which did little to insulate) and the conductive material not treated for oxidization resistance... so newer materials are in order... after all material, electrical and insulation engineering have advanced a lot since 1970!!! (well i hope hahaha)

- I will keep the Auto... no space in the Middle East for Manuals anymore... traffic and road conditions except in the open desert do not allow for spirited driving, and the 928 will spend most of its time in city life and mountain driving in lebanon where the MB Auto makes a lot more sense

- Gold plating contacts using copper deposit then gold plating would allow better corrosion resistance... but it is something to be investigated

- Bigger engine and performance not required again as no space to put them to use... plus the 316hp on the car are more than good enough for it as a Grand Touring machine... i am content with its performance. For higher speeds and push, i have other cars

I do want to keep the car looking externally and internally as stock as possible, as i really honestly think it is beautiful the way it is and i would change little if any in that department. Just renewing and improving over 30 year old technologies as needed is all i am looking for.

P.S. Alan, seriously... i doubt i am allowed more cars... lately one of my business associates was jokingly trying to sell me a fleet management system... he thinks i have just too many and i cannot keep track of them all... which is probably true. As far as my girlfriend is concerned... one more car and its over hahaha...

Love you guys, and miss AZ and stateside

Khaled, I would humbly offer my services if you are indeed serious. You commented that you are going with a Paul Champagne interior. In fact Paul's Ol' girl is in my hands right now getting rear flares and full custom paint. He can vouch for me and our work as he was here Thursday checking out the progress. Also Gary Knox's one-of -a kind GTS is coming to me next month as well as Bill's(Iccy928) track car so you can feel confident about sending your "baby" here.

Chuck,

nice to hear from you again. Aghhh i was sooo close to buying that NC 89GT but g/f flagged me, then again with a 91 out in Cali ... i still lust for a GT, but i am coming to a sad realization that it will almost be undrivable over here which sucks. Maybe someday when i decide to move back to the US, i will get one. In the meanwhile i am putting together the project plan after which i will begin the process of execution. At this point here are the candidates:

- Mechanicals with Dan Werner @ Exotic Motorwerks
- Interior with Paul Champagne
- Parts through Porsche, 928 International, 928 Specialists
- Body is still to be determined (Dan will disassemble the car to the ground and send out the shells and parts for painting which will be sent back to him for reassembly with mechanicals, electrics, etc.)

Rich and guys, i have collected a few more nice toys for daily driving Cars cars cars. Next year no more... i want a yacht :-D

Do not let anybody talk you out of building the car YOU want.

Can you tell us more about the ceramic paint?
I saw a deal on TV about the Ferrari's and that type of paint, i wondered if any one out side of Ferrari could do that.
