You can still drive without it for one track day.

Thats the problem...I can't it causes just enough play that the clutch will either drag or slip..... quite annoying....

Jim saves the day!! I'll pick it up tomorrow!!

You may warp the clutch disk with time if You drive it with a worn bushing. I guess it's the white nylon bushing in the upper end of the clutch arm we're talking about.

If You have an uneven wear of the disk, I gues i wont go away with a new bushing. I guess You will have a shiver in the car when engaging the clutch in 1st and in reverse.

how is this possible? And, why would a worn bushing effect wear pattens anyway? the only thing it seem to be able to do is make a firm feel of the pedal on the mechanism, and reduce any risk of it coming off the ball itself.

mine is pretty loose and I like it that way. I can just press on the lever from the bottom (toward the slave plunger) and it comes right off the ball socket.

Thanks to Bill picking up the extra ball cup and bushing from Jim Morton....the Widow LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It turns out the existing ball socket was bent and the bushing was completely gone...so that explains the clutch problems.....

Bill hand delivered the ball socket-bushing and we went to work installing it in the widow....a couple hours later....all is well and everything works as it should......it was a bit of a PITA getting the release arm to fit over the bushing-ball socket...but other than that it went quite smoothly....

Many thanks to Bill for helping out and Jim for having the part!!!!! Off to Thunderhill tomorrow for 3 hours of track time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Brian,

Good to hear that You got the problem fixed in time. Knowledge, ressources and the willingness to share is true wealth and can not be overestimated.

The way that I understand the effects of a worn bushing is that it can lead to an uneven engagement of the clutch, and thereby a risk of uneven wear.

I have had 2 different GT's where the car shivered when engaging the clutch in low gear and even more in reverse. Replacing the bushing reduced the problem remarkably. I guess that if the clutch engages unevenly and causes the shivering, with time the clutch will wear unevenly. I may be wrong.

Please forgive my stupid questions because I am a very little wrench with a new to me 91 GT. The bushing is missing on my car.

How did you get the new bushing in ?

Did it require complete disassembly of the clutch ?

Thank you in advance.
