Ed,
As far as "best stage of restoration" I vote for the Land Speed Record version. This is what makes it such a special 928 IMHO, even thou it was only for a short period of time. What Mark has done with it as a 928 racer is fantastic and amazing, but there are more than one successful 928 racers out there, but only 1 Land Speed Record holder.

realistically, i think it would be best to just get it together with a cage for exhibition runs. Running the Holbert car at Bonnevile again would be awesome. who cares if it was not exactly the same. having the cage in it might be useful.
To make it a full, and complete restoration, might be tough. basically building a totally new car from old stuff. a lot of work. new wiring, AC, stock interior, seats, stereo, smog stuff, etc etc. I would say that 10 years, and it might not be long enough to get that kind of project done by one or two people. However, getting the car back to some level of recognizability, might be better and more realistic, plus be more fun to have at events where it could actually do something besides look pretty .![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Hey, those are my thoughts, but Im biased.

I agree Mark,We'll get it to a certain level but I would like to visit the idea of trying to make it as close to perfect as we all can.I think just seeing the tub in a less than crumpled state will greatly motivate all.

Maybe we could ask Wally if he is interested in being a part of something like that, at least as an advisor, he already has a few Salt Flat records that I think still stand today.

I think that the aluminum intake manifold should go with the car as it was a one off to it.
Ed, I think that means that you need a set of new cams for it to as it essentially had S3 cams in the car from the factory too.

Ed,
Congrats, great score (I'm jealous:-)!! If there is anything I can help with please don't hesitate to ask. I would also be happy to be a part of the "relay" effort of transporting the Holbert car if needed. I can easily make the time to go 5-10 hours worth in either direction with my car hauler to help get it closer to you.
