Around 500 rwhp for 200 mph is a reasonable estimate, but it needs to be 500 uncorrected under the actual track conditions, not some washed and dried dyno estimate. For something like a race track without straights that are 10 miles long, my guess is that hitting 200 mph takes something like 700+ rwhp.

Are you saying it should be more or less?

Even a high speed track like an Indy style oval I think the corner speed is down to around 160 MPH, getting back to 200 MPH by half way down the straight is going to take surplus to the drag hp to accelerate.

What are the Cup etc cars doing on the straight at say Fontana?

Rodent Track standing mile tests, Saleen S7 206 mph 750 hp.

For an estimate, have a look at youtube, search Ferrari 599, ZRI Corvette GT2 terminal velocity and you will see a topseed shoot out by Motor Trend, then look up the CD factors for the cars and you will also need the A factor which is the area of the front of the car. Power figures are know for these cars, it will help you guesstimate what is needed for a 928 to do these speeds.

One thing I am certain about 200 mph, any time I do it I want to be wheels up and 100 feet off the ground. The physics of a few inches of compliance between the car and ground at that speed just don't seem to be in my favor.

Without creating a huge debate on a 10 mile straight run 550hp- 600hp would be plenty, and well within reach of a built 928.
I guess I misunderstood your original post about the corners I figured we were just talking about the 10 mile run

Flying mile, as in 10 mile run up, around 500 seems reasonable, + or - 50 hp for the details.

Just guessing you are going to need 500+ to the ground and careful gearing if you want to just do it w/ the min HP and having 200 as the max speed... Just guessing. I suspect that would translate to something on the order of 650 crank...

Congratulations Cheryl and Tim for another great run. Glad things worked out so well.
I guess I'll have to wait until next year, again

Devek did 208mph with no more than 440rwhp. So, that number is a little off.
