I removed 1st-4th-5th & reverse gears from the the stock box. It has no clutch and I reverse the polarity for reverse.(22lbs plus another 10lbs with an open dif. out of an automatic)

Heres the best place to start. You can see thousands of conversions and get a good idea what has been done.

how do you shift from 2nd to 3rd?

what is the RPM range of the motor?

I think you need to go to the dyno!

I just use the sincros. It takes about 1 1/2 seounds to upshift and 2 1/2 to shift down(its no speed shifter !) but aound town 2nd is good for 50mph so I dont shift unless im going onthe freway.

Oh , the motor is only good for 6500rpm. So im not running out of power, but gearing.
I need to go to bed, my spelling really sucks !

Thanks Jeff! You know I have a soft spot for the electric motor!
Interesting that it has the same rpm range as our engines. so, you have a good split of gears.
Get that motor that Tesla using and you are on your way! You should be able to wax the tesla if you can put the clutch back in somehow and use the two gears!

Maybe some electronic speed matching to enhance the shift speed?

Just a simple clutch would be good and be needed if it was going to spend time at the 80 to 110mph range. Otherwise, that gear box is going to get trashed . How Jeff is using it now, is fine, but it would be cool to have a smooth shifting method available to take advantage of the motors' available HP! (not torque! )

Another good place for getting the feel of an ev conversion is electriccarsareforgirls.com. Personally, I think that until the day that eestor proves that they aren't full of crap and release a viable product, diesel-electric hybrids are the only way to go for any application besides drving around town. You get the best fuel efficiency you are likely to get, and you can burn just about anything you like, so WVO or viodiesel would further reduce your carbon footprint

Im a pretty big girl ( 6"4")

Around town my efficiency is equivalent to over 225mpg of gasoline.

My freeway way efficiency is equivalent to 175mpg.

I think im on the right track !

Oh and bye the way, I look pretty good in a dress to

If you live in Palo Alto ca. ? I would love to possibly change your thinking with a test ride ?

Oh I love electric cars (though I'll gladly take a test ride). I just mean that, for most Americans, they want a car that they can drive across country if they have to. It would take forever to drive that distance only 80 miles at a time (and I would say that 80 miles is a rather optimistic range for the current generation of DIY electric cars). If one wanted to get an electric unit that *could* go across country if the need presented itself, then diesel electric is the way to go. Sorry, perhaps I should have been more clear the first time around

EDIT: It's worth pointing out that most people could survive with an electric car, since very few people frequently travel more than 100 miles from home. However, the current convenience of gasoline is, in my mind, the major competitive factor for ICEs. Electric cars are more reliable, more efficient, and electric motors produce max torque at standstill, and have a flat torque curve. They are, to my mind, the best option for powering any vehicle, their only drawback is carrying enough energy on-board to make them competitive with a gasoline car, which can be refuelled to full capacity in 3 minutes and can travel at least 300 miles between fill ups (if the car is righteously inefficient)
