I have an 88 Bmw 735IL that is worth nada but decided to save it for my son who will be driving by the end of the year. I thought about the cash for clunkers but I am paying for it on the far end one way or another. It gets very little MPG but that keeps him close to home unless he works for gas, besides its a tank.
As usual the idiots in congress did not think this one all the way to the end, or did they actually READ the bill. Maybe cash for condoms either way we need them as we are getting xxxxx and need the protection.
Love the liberals take it from me, give it to them, I was never brought up this way and this country better rethink who you vote for next time.

That guy needs to get out of here to prevent this thread into a spiraling political **** throwing contest....or it will end up in OT.

On a side note, that's really ironic that he said that considering the Obama Administration is doing the same thing he is complaining about as we speak...whether it's healthcare, clunkers or helping "the people" that never stood up in vast majority saying 'we want this and that from the government.'

Don, are you also indirectly telling us in your ranting and raving that you CLUNKED YOUR OLD SHARK?

My bar stool is as comfortable as yours, Mongo. I'm not going anywhere. As for the rhetoric, I'm just doing my small part to maintaining the partisan bashing and returning your serve.

And thanks for asking; but the 928 is still sitting in the garage. I did seriously consider trading the Lexus but after seeing the videos I just couldn't do that to any car.

You just can't legislate morality, prohibition, sex, and/or common sense.

Ship the better condition cars to some local 3rd world countries and sell them there. Alot of them are not POS's. Give a few away to needy families or needy hard working folks who could not afford a new car anyhow. Destroying them is retarded.

The problem with this is if they can't afford a car, there is likely a reason. Can't afford car payment, can't afford insurance, can't afford repairs. Add those things up and you get a neglected car, no insurance and BIG problems in accidents.

I for one don't like that idea much.

I do agree that something better could have been sorted out with the nicer of the cars though.

^^^^^^
I'll have to disagree on that. Can't afford the payment maybe, however, in this state, Pa. no insurance and the plate has to be turned in. As for repairs, the lower income folks do as many here do, they do the work themselves.
If more thought was put into how to make this work, as opposed to ramming it through which seems to bee the status quo these days, this could have been a huge benefit for many instead of a few.......

People who can afford a new car don't have POS high MPG vehicles, they have pretty decent ones. If its not in decent shape, good reliable running condition, then it may not be insured either or be registered no op so it wouldn't qualify.

The true clunker owners can't afford new cars, and may not have insurance on them.

Where does the destroy the motor thing come in?

Why wasn't it enough to crush the car?

Every state has laws about having insurance, doesn't mean people follow it! People drive uninsured all the time.
I think the plan was kinda dumb, the only thing I DID like about is for once they were at least sorta thinking about stimulating the economy by actually helping out the consumer not the corporation (directly).
If you want to stimulate auto sales, give the consumer an incentive- this plan actually really did leaps and bounds for sales
If you want to stimulate banks, pay off consumer debt instead of giving them free money, its the same either way with the government money only that way actually stimulates the economy not the banks to buy others, etc...

I actually didn't know they were destroying the engine. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard to try to help the earth get Green! This had to be at least 100th+ on the list of things that money could have done to help with green house gases, for the most part people need to STOP looking at auto emissions and look elsewhere...

The reason for destroying the motor is that the rest of the car, all accesories etc... may be parted out by the wrecking yard, But the car may not be re-titled, and the engine may not be sold. So you could still sell off the alternator, rear end, wheels and tires, interior, body panels, etc.., just not the engine.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but friend just sent me a list of some of the cars that have been destroyed under the "cash for clunkers" scheme - there are some real tragedies in there, as well as some oddities (I mean, an Aston Martin DB7?!) .. but most importantly:

Six 928s, including two S4's

Quick Reply: Any 928's actually get clunked for cash?
