Is this what they mean by signs of the impending apocalypse?

Absolutely disgusting.

This is only the tip of the iceberg of over the top, meaningless programs from this administration. A lot of you thought Bush was the worst president ever? This buffoon has only been in office a few months and he's already close to taking that title.

I saved this one from going to the silica liquid treatment.
PO was thinking about the trade in , but it was his Grand Fathers car and couldnt think of destroying it........but the 4500.00 was a tempting option

Disgusting read. The list of cars destroyed for $4,500 trade in credit is crazy. I see so many cars worth more then $4,500. Also what car is getting better gas mileage then a 2008 Hyundai Accent? That and the number of 2006, 2007, 2008 cars on the list doesn't make sense. So you are telling me you paid $50,000-$60,000 for a 2008 Foose F-150 and clunked it a year later

This program made no sense to me before I saw the list of cars traded in now my stomach just hurts.

5,000+ Mercedes Benz, thats just freaking insane, and there is no way I am going to believe those were "clunkers". Wild guess the expensive stuff were celebrity owned and turned in for show, or pretty badly wrecked, but hundreds of thousands of decent cars clearly were pointlessly destroyed.

Has anybody seen any of the clunker cars show up in junkyards?

Some of the cars don't surprise me but the late models have me scratching my head. Maybe they were smashed up or something. On this forum, how many times has someone said "it is $10000 away from being a $5000 car?" Some people look at it as money down the toilet to fix a 928 and would prefer to put that money into some reliable transportation. Probably all the 928's that were traded in had interior issues, needed paint and tons of deferred mechanical maintenance and high miles. Probably same goes for the Bimmers, Benz's, and Vettes that were traded in.

Funny there were 6 944's traded but no 924's, I thought 924's were worth less. Of course no 911's...

Over here a dealer actually persuaded an owner not to scrap a 1970 911T under our scheme! I think they just offered to match the money as a regular trade-in so the poor thing wouldn't have to be destroyed!

I like how in the UK they don't say program, its scheme, much more fitting to the crime.

Most 924 are pre 1985, or get decent MPG.

The requirements of being registered and insured for the previous year excluded most of the really rough cars.

Friend of mine is the financial guy at a local Chrysler dealer. He could not believe how many people had cars worth more than $4,500 signing up for the program. He had a hard time explaining to them why they do not want the C4C deal. Many of them insisted since it was "good for the environment".........

A guy at my office traded in some old POS for a Prius. (barf)

I said, "You're welcome." He looked at me all confused.

I explained how my taxes, and everyone elses' taxes were subsidizing his new acquisition. He informed me that is was the government that was paying for it.

Some people's kids...

Can the seller insist on C4C, or is it actually totally up to the dealer to pursue it or not?

I've at least heard of a few dealers that gave $4500 trade ins instead of C4C, and left the seller thinking they were doing C4C.

I have to imagine the selling contracts were worded so that rejected C4C claims didn't leave the dealer holding the bag. Consider the situation where someone brings in a car with a nominal trade in value of $5k, some technical point fubars the C4C, but the dealer has already rocked the block.

Yes, I was going to say, it isn't so much the program that is at fault, it's the idiot people that are using it to destroy good cars. Maybe they were stupid, or maybe they were too lazy to sell the car on their own. Either way, it's disgusting.

Oh man, I just can't stand it. Here in OKC the city is replacing ALL the school zone signs with ones that are pager controlled. A central computer will send out pages to all the signs to turn them on and off at the correct times. The reason given is because it will be safer for our school children to have signs that flash at the right times, AND it won't cost anything because the Government is Paying For IT!!!! Arrrggh!

What the heck is wrong with just posting the times on the signs like when I was a kid and raising the fines with no tolerance for school zone speeding period, AND double fines for speeding in school zone areas even when the standard speed limit is in effect.

I also think there should be some responsibility for teaching the kids to watch out for cars. I know they did that stuff when I was in school! We even had a whole bicycle safety test that included riding through several courses we had to pass to be able to ride our bicycles to school. I got 2nd place in the state for safe bicycle riding when I was in 4th grade. I was upset that I didn't win first because the prize was a new Schwin Apple Crate There wasn't any such thing as a bicycle helmet either.
