Greg, i've been here longer than you. Attempting to portray yourself as a victim is not cutting my mustard.

But the discussion was really good in the first 2/3 of the thread, pro and cons of the different price points of restauration. Then hurt vanities from the past came into play!

@Darklands I'm not being snarky here....HONESTLY...I agree to a point. The OP was "Help me"....not explain how everyone else is wrong. "Show your work" when someone asks for IDEAS isn't being unreasonable. I 100% support someone saying "Call me" but calling out everything else or being dismissive isn't helpful.

@GregBBRD I own your products, and they have been innovative and helpful for NLA or improvements. I assumed you're basically closed for business other than "preferred customers" at this point, Before this year it was a total PIA to get anything from your shop, and you don't sell through any of the vendors who keep SKUs, anymore because of "battles" like these..... and your own signature says:

Semi-retired, as of Feb 1, 2023.
The days of free technical advice are over.
Free consultations will no longer be available.
Will still be in the shop, isolated and exclusively working on project cars, developmental work and products, engines and transmissions.
Have fun with your 928's people!

You have two choices...use your powers FOR GOOD....or come on here and complain that products you don't have, you won't sell, or "won't sell to that *******.", don't have time to make, quit making because no one ordered one for 2 years, etc until you get an ulcer. I appreciate your input, but I get tired of the bashing and bitching. You could get some more SKUs in the BLACK by actually selling them. To do that you have to take the risk of showing them and getting them to the people who want to distribute parts for a living.

Please save the reply/rant for the next thread. I'm offering you the same unsolicited advice you love to dispense, and legitimately, I'm not trying to do anything other than CLEARLY make a point for your own well-being: You're a valuable source of knowledge and part of what makes it possible for everyone to keep these cars alive.....but you "beating your chest" gets old.

well the great part is if you don't like a certain 928 vendor (not many around) then don't buy their product and move on.....

There is no way around all 928's are getting older and will need significant maintenance and updates to remain at that amazing driving level we all love them for.....that could be an early automatic for one person or a 700hp GTS for another.....it all depends on what your goals & budget are.

It gets old and tiring when some vendors and their fanbase feel the need to take over and dominate so many threads to the point of exhaustion that folks give up and stop posting.

How this is good for business is beyond the scope of any business classes that I took, but it must be working.

This particular thread compels me to share my observations as a recent member. I love forums. As someone with multiple interests and different types of cars, I spend a good amount of time reading and leaning and occasionally contributing or asking questions. I have a business and possess technical acumen and expertise I've acquired throughout my 47 years in business. I believe I (and others) have no business hawking their wares on forums. That's what ads and marketing are for and private messaging. If someone asks me about something that involves my field of expertise, I answer them and don't try to capitalize on it. If I feel I have a solution, I PM the one who is open to that solution. I've never sold a thing on a forum and have no intention of doing so.

I've had a 981 Boxster for 4 years and have visited Rennlist and Planet 9 checking in on occasion. Never have I witnessed the type of "discussions" on the 981 forums I see here.. Since I acquired my 928GTS, I've been visiting the 928 section of Rennlist regularly as I undertake working on it and familiarizing myself with the vehicle. I can say without reservation as a casual observer, that the writings of some frequent contributors stand out from others for their encyclopedic knowledge and need to let everyone know they have that knowledge. Vitriol literally spills off the page. Apparently there's a lot of history amongst veteran contributors. FWIW, it's not enjoyable to read and doesn' t reflect well on Rennlist. That said. please don't tell me not to visit as I come for the information and intelligent conversation. Just sayin'

This is a very astute observation, since it's unique to the 928 forum on Rennlist. You could say such things were grandfathered in since two vendors in particular, 928 Specialists and 928 International, have been around supporting the 928 Rennlist community even before the forum existed. They were key to this forum being as successful as it became over 20 years ago.

Elsewhere on Rennlist vendors are not allowed to hawk their wares as it's done on the 928 forum. If a thread is started on a product sold by a vendor, that vendor is able to answer questions and help folks with their items. Randomly posting in every thread they feel like it doesn't happen like it does in the 928 forum.

This has been a very hot topic over the years about this forum. I've fought very hard to keep the status quo around here since I feel these legacy forums are not like a 991 forum where you'll have 47 different wheel vendors all posting in every "what wheel should I buy" thread. I also don't want to lose the postings from such folks like Mark Anderson and Jeannie Roberts. They have been such rock in this community for close to 30 years,

With the good there's always some negative aspects and trying to balance it isn't easy or fun. Hindsight isn't always 20/20 but somedays I do regret how far I've stuck my neck out for some folks who haven't hesitated to cut it off at their convenience.

Maybe it is time to just say f*ck it and start enforcing such sitewide rules in the 928 forum.

Take the higher road- the money will come. The best sales people have customers and clients that want to buy from them.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your 928 GTS. We, as mods, will straighten this out, so stick around and thanks for your contribution and insight.

I'm not sure what generation or from what part of the country everyone is or came from...
However, i grew up pre-internet, where if someone attacked my credibility or my reputation, out loud, they would get dropped like a used condom.

Here, where these attacks occur, in writing, the current "policy" ss to not control (moderate) anything. Hacker has even stated that he has no obligation to edit or delete anything (which makes one wonder what his job actually entails).

When I joined Rennlist, the moderators would never have allowed post #108...instantly gone! No dumpster fire would have even started!

Currently, with zero control, this leaves the person, with his reputation, credibility, and business being attacked, little option but to defend himself, in writing.

And when things become out and out libel, defend all those things through any means necessary.

Tomorrow, when not traveling, I'll post one of the libelous posts ever written, which a moderator flat refused to do anything about.

And then, after this, made it his life's goal to get ME banned.

In the hospital we call this a "CODE BROWN"... A patient comes in and we are all doing our best to help them and they loose their bowels all over the Operating Room...

It occasionally stinks so bad that members of the surgical teams loooooose their breakfast... Yet the team quickly cleans the patient up and gets them through their moments of angst.

This thread makes me sick to my stomach and want to leave Rennlist and the 928 community! Which I cherished and enjoyed!

With all the craziness in this world, this should be a safe place where we can share our ideas and love for these cars respectfully.

Whatever our car, it's state of greatness or disrepair.

I believe the members fo this community deserve to have vendors that compete for our dollars with respectful commentary instead of threats of legal action. The tenor of this discussion (and a few others) is the exact opposite type of conversation I wish to be reading or participating in. In fact, I recently passed on adding a spectacular car to my collection and have considered leaving the 928 community because of the insane politics and bitterness of various 928 members.

My original intent for the Car Cave was to celebrate this community and bring us together for gatherings and fun! A massive investment of time and energy that now is looking at being re-purposed.

Even trying to be neutral in this world with only a desire to bring people together has its dangers because of the "If your not with me - - - you are against me" mentality.

Enough is enough!
