Rear Bumperettes

Agree w/ DrBob on this one too... If you can't get a fully intact bumper cover then the next best thing is to put those holes to use with some sort of cooler hidden behind a beautiful mesh cover! LOVE that look! I have also seen one with louvers too. Would prefer the mesh personally.

I'm not sure about that Louie guy though. Butt is too wide, tires and wheels too wide, too loud exhaust exits in the wrong place. And the mesh isn't even painted to match the body color. A nice pair of bumperettes, with some 8" wide wheels and 235's, would clean up that rear look again.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one Dr Bob - day one in my town with the Bleumax, I got whacked in the rear by an Audi A6. The shocks did their job perfectly, and the only outside damage to my car was the bumperettes being scuffed - it was a square hit at a redlight, and the impact felt quite hard when it happened. If the bumperettes hadn't been there, I would have had damage to the cover of a darn near perfect 31 year old car - at the very least paint damage that would have never been able to be perfectly matched. I'll not ever go without them (plus I do like the look)

Totally ignorant on the following, but I thought the only holes that have to be made to fit bumpers are, ( each side) one top hole for the threaded stud and a horizontal slot for the lower bracket/mount..., or am I wrong, has the whole shape of the bumperette got to be cut out, ( very big square hole).
If it,s the former then thats no big deal, also as has been suggested I should get a bumper cover thats already cut out...., they dont exist in the UK, in fact as far as I know, no UK cars have them fitted, unless they,ve been imported from the States.
With regards to my license plate not fitting Iv,e measured mine and with it being a cherished number ie, less digits than normal UK plates, it just fits, conveniently, one of the digits is the letter " I " and in total there are only six digits as opposed to seven on normal UK plates.
All the advice is most appreciated guys !

I measured 14.5 inches between the bumperettes on the back of my 78. I don't know what the holes look like in the cover however - anybody have pics of the rear bumper cover with the bumperettes off so we can see how big the holes are (Oh Kevin - whaere are you?). Anybody doing body work may have a pic or two.

Here in the great and socialist Republik of Kaleefawnia, I stand a bigger chance of getting smacked by an SUV driver yakking in the phone, and probably not yakking in English. And then get blamed in that same non-English language for stopping the car in their way. Just looking at the odds.
