Default Rear Bumperettes

Can anyone tell me if my car, UK spec, will have the locating points in order to fit US spec rear bumperettes, if it has,nt would I have a problem?, the same beam as US cars is behind the outer cover.
I,ve measured my UK spec license plate and it will just fit in between the bumpers so that,s not a problem..., when I get a chance I,ll have a look, but in the meantime I thought I,d ask ?

You and I are probably the only ones in the world that like the bumperettes

Hi Rod.., I never used to like them much, but as time passes I like them more, and particulary on the early cars, as I think it evens out the broad butt, ie does,nt look as stretched in the width, particularly with the smaller rear lights, there seems to be a massive gap, and the bumpers add a bit of depth.
Any more info/advice ?

Save your bumper and find one that has the cutouts already. There are many that would buy the bumper cover without cutouts.

Other than that I don't know. Never looked at one without

I agree with Rod... Don't cut an uncut rear bumper cover! I can't abide them myself and were it convenient NONE of my cars would have them.

Just been and had a look, and it appears there are holes allready in the cross beam, ie 2 on the vertical section and 2 on the lower return, exactly in the position where the bumpers fit.

Thanks for the input.

Those are not the holes anyone is thinking about I am pretty sure... it is the urethane rear bumper cover that is the concern!

Yes I am talking about the big plastic cover. Make no holes in it. Just my thoughts

Dang, I paid good money to have mine filled in so I could get rid of those things. I'd have been happy to trade you bumpers.

OK - so if you install the bumperettes - what are you going to do with you rear plate - are you really sure it will fit... I'd really doubt it will?

USA plates are much narrower - unless UK plates got a lot smaller recently...

I like my rear bumperetts, but I painted them body color (like all the current Porsche's). I think it updates the looks.

Hey Jim, meant to ask you, how did you paint the things exactly? Last time I saw you car I noticed they looked great and didn't show any plastic grain or texture through the paint. Did you do some elaborate priming or other prep to get them to come out like that?

I agree with Jim. Painting them looks really good. And surprisingly, holds up very well. I have had mine painted for about 4 years, and just recently developed my first chip.

Sanded the pebble grain off and a heavy coat of primer with sanding down to the what was left of the grain then another coat of primer and the final coats, plus clear. The end result was a smooth finish just like the body.

I'm not really sure how much real protection the bumperettes provide, especially since they are so low that only the impact from another sports car has a chance of impacting them. Good news is that mine came from the factory the same color as the body, albeit with a semi-gloss tectured finish rather than the gloss used on the bumper shell. I do like Jim's GTS with the body-matched pieces, but also admired a few that have the bumperettes removed and replaced eithre with screen/mesh steel or filled in completely. In the end it's a matter of taste and effort needed. On Keith W's white GTS, it for sure looked better without the black blobs, while on my black car they pretty much disappear.

With the proliferation of radar cameras and such, I might be coerced into making a larger, better bumper shroud around the plate area, to better protect it. Might include a horizontal section across the top and much deeper pads where the current bumperettes sit now. Coupled with a piece of that 3M privacy film used on laptop screens, the plate would be visible only directly from the rear. Higher or off to the side, it would either be masked by the shroud or or distorted by the film. Just thinking ahead, of course. Really only need the film over a few of the plate characters, right?

OK, back to the originally scheduled thread topic!
