Default Water Pump Impeller Repair Pieces

Well, the tool is made and Steve Hattori (Salinas Valley Precision) is done making the drilling/tapping fixture and the inserts. We should be repairing the first block, next week!

Here's some pictures of Steve's genius. Steve's got....and more inportantly knows how to use, a big, big 5 axis machine. He's also a great guy! If you have anything made that you need several, very closely machined pieces for, he's your guy! I'm planning on an entire trip just to go up and see this thing in action!

I'll get some pictures of the tool that I had made and post them, later.

The tool is a template for drilling and tapping. Then an insert is installed and bolted in place. Brilliant answer to a short block that has been damaged by a water pump impeller.

Can't you just mend it with some Mighty putty? (tm)

So that gizmo is the 3d metallic construct of the void that used to be on a good block's water pump opening.
And it's used to create a replacement piece of metal covers a damaged block opening?
I'm still confused.

So in the second pic the jig is on the left and the insert is on the right? The insert would get 8 flat head screws to hold it in place and would then be flush mounted. Wouldn't you have to remove some material from the block in order to get it to fit?

Very cool! I only hope guys like that pass on their trade and craft to the younger generations. I would really hate to lose good machinists like that.

Greg,

Very Impressive, Kudos to you and Steve for taking the time and expense to make this!

That is some great work done by Greg Brown to figure out exactly how to go about repairing the damage that so many of us have suffered and to Steve for his great machine work.

I am stunned at the work I see there.

We need a American flag smillie and a sunglasses cool one for this thread.
