Alternator plastic air duct ?
Has anyone fitted / removed their Alternator plastic air duct, and if so are there any tips to do this.., I,m trying to do this, but even with the car on a service lift I,m not having much success..., all I,d like to know is whats involved ie does the Alternator have to come off, or is there another trick to it.

disconnect the battery then drop the alternator hang it on a piece of mechanics wire then remove the rear cover its held on with 4, 8mm nuts
You didnt say why your trying to remove this piece, if its to fit another piece thats in better condition thats a good idea make sure to also have a good duct hose connected to the inlet as it will suck in stones that go into the back of the alternator

Thank,s for the reply,s.., the reason is that mine has no Alternator air-duct at present, and Iv,e just sourced a new duct complete with hose and mount bracket for inner fender liner, hence the problem with fitting it.
Any more info much appreciated.

please post a picture of the alternator installed in the car on a US car its on the left side of the engine viewed from the driver seat. The air duct is also routed along the left side of the alt so that where the plastic shroud should also run

Pulling the alternator completely in order to install the plastic cover is the way to go. It allows you the time/space required to clean all the grime away from the housing. I made my own cooling tube:

The alternator set up on British spec 928,s is exactly the same as U.S. models with ducting in the left hand wheel arch (fender) viewed from your driver seat, my passenger seat.
I would like to know what the tube that holds the outside air-con sensor is made from.., is it metal or plastic, and thats the only part missing.., the sensor is there and in good condition.
Should have some news later regarding the air duct installation, meanwhile material type for the sensor housing would be great.
Thank,s

Thank,s for the offer Stephen, but I,d already bought one.
Finally finished my installation of the Alt air-duct and associated flexi hose / mounting bracket..., installing the air hose and connecting it up via inner front liner was real easy compared to that son of a bitch air- scoop on the alternator.
Here,s a few pics I took.
Thank,s to all who helped/advised me

I thought the way I routed the hose was as per normal, as it almost found it,s own way from fender to alternator, ie natural bends with no stress or kinking.

the way you routed is the factory routing looks good. The silver paint however takes away from the splendid aluminum casting used for the suspension. Waxol would be a better choice IMHO
