Yes, Dr. Bob, you can use that quote.
That's one of the best original quotables I've run across in a long time. Unless you're giving Dr. Bob the right of first refusal I'd like to stick that in my sig. PM me if that's not ok!

Now it's

Greg, I'm saving up these Greg-isms, and use them at the moments -I- think might be appropriate. This one will be added to list.

Dave-- The way your new sig reads on my screen, it looks like Aristotle is quoting Greg. Maybe there is some Greek tradition around ***-kicking, started by Greg in a previous life. It's all one big circle...

Default ISV FOR CHEAP

OK the part is too cheap and lets call AUTOZONE and have a price hike.Lets say less than Porsche dealer and in between the other vendors. Now everyone will accept the Bosch part as genuine and gladly pay for it.250.00 and in its orig box and not WELLS the distributor bag.

Hah! That's great too!

At this risk of going too OT, we could all be thankful if our political thinkers started quoting Greg more often

Dang, I’m gone for a couple days and missed all the drama. Besides that, I could have added fuel to the fire if I wasn’t out helping a buddy check his ATF level and installing new shocks on my truck. This thread is worthless without pictures, so I'll help out.

I ordered this ISV from Autozone and it certainly looks to be a Bosch product to me with the logo. Wouldn’t you think it would be slightly illegal for Autozone (or whoever) to apply Bosch stickers to non-genuine parts?

On a different note, when I used my Indiana zip code the price went up around $100, so I used a California zip code instead. In the end, the part shipped out a warehouse in Memphis and arrived 2 days later using standard shipping.

That looks like a Bosch part to me.
The question I have is why does it not come in a Bosch box.

I know the box means nothing as far as the part, but there has to be a reason that Bosch does not want it in their own box.

I think it was referenced earlier in the thread... an over-stocked, wholesaled part to a distributor would end any connection to a Bosch warranty.

If it was in a Bosch box, the customer would contact Bosch with problems... in this case Wells picks up the warranty baton and runs with it.

I think it is because of various levels of quality and dimensional accuracies.Only parts that fit the tolerances of QC get to be BOSCH boxed parts, others that fall under spec get put on the group B bench to be sold under lesser valued brands.Although they may be BOSCH made they don't meet BOSCH criteria but still work.Ed

I think it's simpler then that. I think it's simpler then most of the explanations thus far. Mass producing that part requires tooling which is expensive. So whoever builds it has to be sure they're going to get their money's worth out of it. On something that is as low volume as a 928, that will limit you to one manufacturer: Bosch in this case. But then you have this company, Wells, and they want to increase their offerings in their parts catalog. It's not cost effective for them to set up the tooling to build their own, so they do the next best thing. They buy it from someone else and sell it under their label, sort of.

It's a win-win scenario. Bosch makes X dollars for this part whether it goes to a Porsche dealer or to Wells (for later sale at Autozone) or anyone else. And to be honest, they don't care as long as they get to keep cranking out the part. Their name is still on the product, so their name is still associated with the part. Wells gets a boost because they sell the same quality part for less money the everyone else. And Autozone (the discount store) sheds some of that negative stigma of being a second rate store.

I say that is a very valid thought also.I guess no one knows for sure but if your doing your own work and enjoy it,I would go for the cheaper one and give it a go.Besides, you could buy 1 for $350 or $600 whatever,or, you could buy 3 or 4 of them for less.Either way,I don't think it is a bootleg made in china rip off part with a BOSCH sticker on it!

Default ISV FOR CHEAP

It has to do with duty tax, just like jewelry if you import components and put it together yourself it would not consider as finished goods and therefore taxes are less than finish goods.I bet Bosch sold them in quantities and WELLS REPACKAGED THEM.....

That might be like some one asking me if they should repair the car they have or buy a new one.
The answer might skewed a bit.

For anything you suspect Bosch might provide you can use this site to cross-reference the Porsche P/N to other vehicles that use the same part. Then you can work different supply sources to get the cheapest, nearest, bestest part for your car.
