Thanks for the help guys. I do appreciate it. Me thinks I'll wait a little while longer. I may get fed up and at some point look at other colors but for now, especially after these amazing photos I think I'd be better to hold off.

I am with you about color preference, but they are indeed hard to find. I was so bummed when the blue GTS was recently totaled. I think it was for some stupid reason like a broken off alternator bracket or something.

Rest of the World, a non US market car, Europe and especially Japan are where most of the really nice GTS were sold. Importing to the USA costs something like $15k for DOT and EPA testing and approvals. Importing to Canada the biggest part of the cost is the $1500 shipping.

Its not without risk, but its a simple fact that most of the USA cars were ordered boring, red or black, while the rest of the world got both more cars than the USA and all sorts of great colors and interior options.

Unless you are absolutely set on a GTS you should look into the earlier models too. You might be able to find a great 5-speed in blue in the '91 MY (or earlier) and pre-GTSs are more-or-less about $10k cheaper all other things equal. The pre-GTS 928s are more numerous.

Almost all Japanise 928 are automatics, especially GTS. Best bet to find 5sp is in Europe:

Though Iris and Cobolt are rare in ROW markets also but every now and then they come available. Then there are even rarer possibilities.

Earlier cars - 1991 to 1993 were available in cobalt blue, which is somewhat similar, but it's also very rare. I don't think there is even a hand full of cobalt blue 928s in the US. See the 928 registry for reference.

You'll have an easier time finding a midnight blue car.
Iris is similar to the cobalt blue used on the newer cars 2004 on up but is nothing like the cobalt blue of the mid 90's. Very different color. Also depends on who was mixing the 2 stage mica paint mix that day which makes it shift and change color drastically. As stated there was only the one us spec cobalt and it is now gone. What a shame. IMO Cobalt is the ultimate color Porsche made for cars with curves. Although Iris IMO is tops on the GTS and I tried buying Mrs. Worf's car but I didn't have a brief case with enough $$ in it to convince her.

Good luck there are some very nice colors out there and I ended up with Amazon green which is more blue than green and is a great alternative. They made 10 or so in this color.

Added a picture for you.

Hard to tell since the pearlescent paints change color but Amazon looks like anything from black to teal to blue. Most people walk up and say what a beautiful blue car. BTW my turbo in my avatar is cobalt.

Erkka: Stop torturing me! Dave's picture was "painful" enough already...

Anthony: Thanks for reminding us of another really rare and awesome color! Amazon Green really isn't very green, but changes color in the light from teal to blue to almost black. A very fascinating color to look at on the 928!

I always thought it was more green than blue.

These threads are fun (about once per year)

Here's a picture of Amazon in different light.

Sell everything, move to Canada and import all 928's from Germany you always wanted. Problem solved.

Thanks for the clarification...I'll get it eventually! Not sure how I feel about ordering from Europe or Japan, but it may be worth looking into.

That works! Thanks, I'll modify the search accordingly.
