Question 4.5 Euro M28.01 - Make it go faster!

Ok, so I haven't even started the thing yet... it's been sitting in the driveway, mocking me, teasing me, "drive me, drive me" I hear everytime I walk past.

But anyway, I'm curious to know if there are any simple (hahaha, yeah right) upgrades for the 4.5 for some extra power. Just a thought before I try to convince Mason to cut me a deal for the 4.7 Euro motor to swap in there ... any thoughts on that project? Anyone done it?

Thanks in advance,
Evan

The cheapest performance upgrade is making sure everything works 100% as the factory intended.

It's amazing how often people look past a throttle not opening 100%, WOT switches not working, clogged exhaust etc....

Once that is complete the exhaust is the first step. Dump the stock manifolds for 85/86 units or better yet headers. After that heads / cams are the next step. Better off with a complete Euro motor - assuming it's an S model.

Even with a EuroS motor you are still only looking at 300-310bhp.....

Cut to the chase, if you want more power before even starting it, what you need is an early CIS Euro S motor. Should drop right in, no muss no fuss, plenty of zoom zoom. While your at it, might as well upgrade the 85/86 exhaust manifolds, and X or Y pipe, high flow cats, and a nice loud muffler.

That will do it. You might want to get it running first though LOL!

Don't bother getting the old motor to run. Go directly to the Euro S.

However, if you don't want to do that and want to ease into it more gradually some have reported that putting on Euro S throttle body and intake runners can help. I have an extra set of these if you are interested.

The only other real option would be 928 motorsports supercharger kit, but the full kit is something like $6K which is likely a bit much for you right now.

There are some very lengthy threads on this mod, the last two that I know of gained a whopping 2hp.

I don't have any data on whether or not it helps. I bought this stuff to put on my euro non S motor, then bought another motor with a complete euro S top end.

$300 will get you 75-150RWHP of nitrous. Have fun with it. Then when you grenade the engine, go for a 5.0L bottom under the Euro S top end.

Exhaust should be your first mod. Then cams. Then displacement.

Nitrous I it's like boost for poor white trash like me.

This is very true. My throttle cable had a 1/4" of mis-adjustment. My WOT switch also wasn't aligned correctly. Those two items can be worth 25whp.

Get your car running. Well. You'll like it.

Then worry about power increases. You might need that $$$ for a transmission. Or clutch. Or brakes.

HAHA! Very true... just trying to plan in advance for not being able to keep up with mason's '86.5. I would rather just bypass trying to diag what may be wrong with the car now and drop the 4.7 euro in there. But like you said, just getting it running is a big increase from ZERO! First attempt (hail mary) was made this morning to just try to jump it.... showed some signs of life, but no time to play with it yet.
