I would love a GTR. I think its a perfect platform for tons of fun. They will beef up the trans. How many times can the 928 do a power dump from a stop with 500hp? Anyone care to find out? I didn't think so. Its basically a software-allowed neutral drop. Who's first?

Make my GTR black with black wheels. Add in some boost, AND it already has back seats.

Brendan, I personally have done many(I couldn't count them) in my 552 hp Shark. Launching at 3500-4000 after getting the 295's sticky and I have never fried anything but a spec clutch doing it. I don't have that problem anymore though. Most on here underestimate the stout nature of our beloved 928's. But those of us that have high-power 928's know from experience rather than guesswork.

One of the members of our race group has a GTR. I love my 928 but this is light years ahead. 12.2 in the 1/4 mile in 90 degree heat. It beat my brothersviper oupe and all of the Z06's that were there for the day. I ran against him on his very first run and I watched him just drive away. Handling with the AWD drive is way beyond us. The fact is we are 30 year old technology. Of course I can by 10 to 15 average 928's for what he paid.
I imagine this is what the culture at Porsche was when they created the 928. Build the best with the best technology available at the time. I doubt they'll hold up as well as a 928.

On another note, does anyone else find it really hard to believe that the GT-R can best the 911 with the same power but 10% more weight?? Weight distribution and shift speed? Which would mean a fast-shifting 928 with the same power should be able to spank a 911 then?

Test on the video in the rain on a wet track I doubt should be seen as definitive. Different tires, wet vs dry handling, driver and track more suited to one car than the other.

Supercars need more than 20 minutes and no adjustments to make a single lap time very meaningful.

If we had 2009 928, they would be 500-600HP from factory.

How many 928 get their tranny to break within a year? Most people still has their original tranny.

When I was spanking everyone at the autocross with my BoxsterS a friend let me drive the then newest EVO. In my first group of laps the BoxsterS spun a rod bearing. My friend felt sorry for me and let me do my second group of laps in the track version EVO M. I got FTD by 1/2 second over my BoxsterS in the EVO. That was about the only good thing I have to say about the EVO and was much happier with the style, handling, comfort, and feel of the Boxster. Sounds like the GT-R is a similar Jap car to the EVO M.

To not leave you hangin', Called 1-800-Porsche, they picked up the Boxster (at the track), determined from the data logs I had not caused the engine failure, and replaced it while giving me a loaner car for the interim.

I'll just be starting out with a boosted 4.5L but I am working on the custom intake now, and it will be ethanol and 30psi. And its the early trans. We'll see I guess. I have a 5.0L built and ready.

I have a friend that will soon allow us to see whether an automatic will hold up to 1000hp. I'm sure it will. Its the 5psd that is the problem when used in anger.
