If truly this car was worth that kind of money don't you think it would have been sold by now??? Why not approach the guy who has IMHO a car to go after the 928 GTE, which I believe last I read was in South Africa.... I'd concede to Chuck Z.... (seems to have the best of both worlds!

Just to cut to the chase. I do respect all of your opinions. The 928 has always been my favorite car. I'm glad I just have one.

The dealer here in Santa Barbara that has the '93 GTS for sale claims that last year he sold a fully restored, low mile (but not extremely low mile) '78 for 30k. Original paint, but most everything else was improved/repaired in some way. If that one was worth 30k, then Kermit is easily 50k. Just gotta find the right buyer, sometimes it takes time.

Bronto,

Totally agree w/ your assessment. If a restored lowish mile '78 that has had many things fixed or replaced is worth $30k (and if you had to PAY to have a car FULLY restored to factory specs, you would NOT be able to do it for $30k plus the cost of the car) then Kermit is worth every bit of $50k.

Chuck, I tell you what if I had a job and was not totally Jonesing to have a Ferrari, you KNOW I would be all over it! Like I said, my DREAM garage would have a SUPER LOW MILES concours ready 928 in EACH body style and Kermit would be PERFECT for that! Orange91 would be the other one and then I would have to go in search of the lowest mile GTS out there... That would be expensive considering our friend Willhoit just sold a very low mile example for $97k or something like that! OUCH! Hope it went to a collector!

Chuck, that would be a right pretty car if you cleaned it up a bit.

It really looks better than some new cars I have seen.

Impressive for a 30+ year old car, really impressive.

I hope you get ten grand more than the high figure you have in the back of your head.

Ummm... that's why it is nicknamed 'Kermit'?!? You think?

Greg, it was a one-off design experiment commissioned by Porsche. Apparently, a very good customer ($$$) saw it and even though it wasn't for sale... offered a price they couldn't refuse. So, he has a one-of-one. The model was based off the '88 Club Sport and was to be called the GTE (Gran Turismo Executive). I believe Kremer was the company that was chosen for the design study.

Greg, you can also check it out on 928Registry -they show a magazine article that has the Porsche certification letter shown. Here is a description of the car by the owner himself:

"Dr.M.Whitfield - The 928 GTE Prototype The Porsche 928 S4 Club Sport GTE Prototype

Owner's Musings

Built as a one-off prototype in 1988, the GTE (or Gran Turismo Executive
as it was later named by the factory as an afterthought) was mechanically
based on a Club Sport but fitted with a high-end luxury interior and a
36O+ bhp engine. Few people seem to know about this car, but it is well
documented. The bodywork was also unique and embodies very aggressive
ground effects-style aerodynamic components. I believe this car boasts the
highest output of any 928 ever made. The exhaust note is unforgettable,
and the brakes and handling are dimensionally superior to any other 928 I
have ever driven - and that is no small number. The close-ratio gearbox
seems perfect for roadracing any short circuit. The close ratios are
exaggerated somewhat by the engine's ability to pick up revs very quickly,
regardless of load. The paradox is that the car has amazing top speed
capability, and I have seen indicated speeds well above 300kph under
controlled conditions. The car is driven very seldom due to its rarity and
historical significance, and it is kept just the way it was when
originally acquired from the factory. It is kept at my South African
residence. It is impossible to duplicate and certainly not for sale any
time in the near future.

As this model was never offered as a customer car, no menu-style options
list was ever compiled. It is the only example ever manufactured, yet is
100% factory built. It is not simply a hotrodded 928 from one of the tuner
houses such as Kremer.

There are a multitude of differences between the GTE and its production
sibling, the Club Sport, though they share many mechanical features. It
does not have much in common with the S4, both from a mechanical and
cosmetic standpoint. However, it remains easily recognizable as a 928,
albeit one on steroids.

The car's performance is quite amazing and not comparable with either the
CS or S4. Its output surpasses all other 928s by a substantial margin -
easily eclipsing the end-of-run 928GTS.

The car has not been modified in any way since it was originally acquired
at the factory during 1988. Even the aftermarket remote CD changer has
been fitted using existing mounting points and bolts. Not one hole was
drilled into the car. Apart from oil changes, the usual scheduled
servicing (belts, plugs, etc), a replacement Bosch Silver battery and a
set of new tyres (Bridgestone Pole Position), it remains 100% original. I
believe it would be foolish to modify any part of the car, as this would
probably devalue it significantly. Someday it could end up back at the
factory - perhaps even ending its days on display in the Porsche museum,
who knows?

There is a lengthy special features list in the GTE which includes
upholstery, bodywork and mechanical elements. Had it been approved for
production, who knows how the market would have responded to this
UberPorsche?

So the GTE is to Porsche what stickers are to a honda?

Or is it a club sport with a body kit?
