Andy, is there any indication that anything was actually reported by anyone??

I am thinking that this is just junk mail, a blanket mailing to owners of older cars, taken directly from DMV records or some other public database. There was talk of a "cash for junkers" program in Calif, did that come to be? Is there a bounty for someone who turns in an older car? This sure sounds more like a blind fishing expedition than a real complaint.

Please scan the letter and post it.

Cheers,

Good points Jim. Andy -- S4's run rich at the very high end regardless.

Easy way to get rid of that puff of smoke the treehuggers are complaining about...

Hot Rod Speed & Custom's Flame Thrower Installation Kit includes ignition coils, coil brackets, coil wires & a pair of spark plug bungs. Installation kit requires other modifications or components to complete a flame thrower system.

6' flames out the exhuast should get them to back off.

They're all cracked up about it.

So when you're using an activated charcoal filter like the carbon canister, you're not supposed to be burning the coal.
Ooops.

Is it baking powder or baking soda you're supposed to throw into a fire again?

I agree that it may be junk mail just because it's and 80's car. Rather insulting that they assume it's polluting the environment. If we all pulled our pants down on this board and farted at the same time, it would be 100 times more polluting than all of our 928s combined, including the race cars. Just sayin'...

CARB has had ways to report smoking cars for some time now http://www.arb.ca.gov/enf/complaints/smoke.htm . I do agree it was probably just some smug, whiney douchebag turning in the report though.

Exactly, that's what I do. "do you have any idea how how big of a carbon footprint you are leaving when you buy a NEW car, even a Prius? My car passed smog even before I put the cats back on, and I bought a used car rather than pay someone to build me a new one." That usually shuts 'em up.

I see some potential for abuse with that type of reporting.

This needs to be done everywhere. Let's "abuse" the system in such a way that it becomes useless & goes away.
