Have any of those eco weenies considered the incremental carbon footprint from the production and logistics of their new SMART or Pious? I am thinking we could remove the cats, put on forced induction and generally drive like total hoons and still have a net carbon footprint than is lower than their muselix mobiles.
Makes me want to go out and cut down a tree with a two stroke chain saw and eat meat.

Living in the "Last Soviet state" (Nisse/Norway, now run by communist/socialist govnt), I am not surprised.
As for "carbon footprint," this is of course misunderstood due to lack of knowledge or just plain ignorance.
A car that is so long lasting, and in fact rather low polluting once you get up to speed.
You also do not need to brake and accellerate for every corner.
You did see the Top Gear test, where they beat the mpg of a primus with a M3?
What it really counts down to, is that there are people that does not like your car.
Probably not the rest of your life style either.
Ignore them.
I mean, I don't like mobile homes on wheels or primuses, but I would still defend the freedom of choice, so that those people can continue to drive around on cars I don't like.
And I would certainly not attack them personally just because they happen to choose different.

This sounds more like a neighbor complaint. If a "citizen" sees a "gross polluter" they can contact DMV and file a report/complaint. DMV then sends out the letter it sounds like you recieved.
The other type of letter is a standard form letter from DMV/state of California ( I get one every year before the registration is due) as a buy back program offering $600. It goes out to ALL cars over a certain age.
Sounds more like a pissed off neighbor rather than "the Pelosi police"

I received a similar letter down here on an old Impala I was driving at the time. Most California counties have a Smoking Vehicle Hotline for citizens to report polluting cars. I doubt it was a neighbor.
I sent a reply letter stating:
At the time of the incident I had just added a valve cleaner additive to the oil in order to improve the car's engine efficiency. Per the additive manufacturer, increased smoke at the exhaust is normal.
After running with the additive for the prescribed duration, the oil was then changed and the engine no longer smokes.
___
Give it a try.

Or... what I like to do with junk mail that has a 'pre-paid' response envelope:
I cut out my pertinent information, write a large "F**K OFF" in permanent marker, slap it in the envelope and drop it at the post office.
Now, if everyone in 'Commie'fornia did the same thing... the postage expense incurred by these 'agencies' would go through the roof!

I use the 'King Size' Sharpie... you know, the one that has that 'pollutant' smell ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Just make sure your personal information (address; name; VIN number; etc.) is not listed -or use a blank sheet of paper!
Combine this with the anonymous reporting of Prius, SMART, etc. hybrid ****boxes -and those affected agencies will soon be overwhelmed!
