slotted GTS rotors?

I run the ST43 in the front of my rx8, and porterfield R4S in the rear...
Yes, noisy..but..I bomb mountain roads 2x a day 3500' up, and 3500' down..and I have fun doin it..too much.
A set of pads lasts me 2.5-3yrs, and a set of rotors last at least 2 sets of pads. You cant find many race pads that dont erode rotors when cold...
And then I can go to the track and not fade on street tires.
I would not run 43's on race rubber...not enough.
The customers I did keep that loved hawk, went from pads every 2 races and rotors every 2 sets of pads (4 races) to one set a year for the normal sprint race season, and the smaller cars would even still get the 25hr race from that one set.
I dont sell anymore, so I make no $ with the recommendation.

Not sure if this fits into the discussion. I got slotted rotors from a company called "R1 Concepts" for my Mercedes a couple of years ago. Just checked and they list slotted or drilled for 928 GTS as well. Mention "benzworld" at purchase and they'll supposedly knock 15% off list price as well.

One of the best decsions I EVER made for my race cars is using Raybestos pads..... On my Estate with relatively low power (198whp..3000lbs) the 1st set of front St43's lasted almost 51 HOURS on track...that is nearly unheard of lifespan & the power was excellent, not to hard on rotors either....
On Casper I put St43's all around when I bought her, huge improvement over the Pagid Oranges that were on there..... Then I drove Sean's 150lb heavier 928 using St41 front pads (both are GTS brakes)..WOW what a difference...incredible....the grab-power of the St41 is amazing.... So a set of St41's and new rotors are going on the front!!!!

Mark,
Check with Dougherty Automotive Services in West Chester, PA. They used to have the capability of having solid rotors slotted for racing use.
http://www.doughertyautomotive.com/
Bill Dougherty runs the place, and was a chief mechanic or something like that for Penske Racing. His son Colin ran the company called CDOC for several years - primary supplier of go fast stuff - primarily for Porsches - on the east coast.

Check out RacingBrake's "Open Slots" Patented (US Patent#: 7097007) disc finish that combines the advantage of both "Surface Slots" and "Drill Holes" yet without those commonly known drawbacks:
RB Open slots rotor on Porsche
RB Open slots rotor on Ferrari F430 (CCM Iron Rotor Conversion)
RB Open slots on GT-R (Rear 380x30mm)

Great stuff.
however, I did see a little flaw in the meterlugy that has me worried about cracking during their life. I hope this isn't a problem. both rotors have one or two of these small holes. may be nothing to worry about, but we will see. they survived their first week of racing at laguna. on to thunderhill for two races.
ran the ST41s and they lasted exactly 3 race weekends on the stock GTS rotors they literally eat the rotors. very abrasive... with a lot of initial bite but fade just like the other lower temp pads like the pagid black. (fade rating about 1100 degrees) So, after testing the blacks RS14, Porterfield R4, Raybestos ST41s, and the performance friction PF-01, I think the PF-01 is the winner. good grip, less fade and slightly better feel vs the RS14 pagid . however there is a RS15 that is supposed to be 1200 degree effective and the new PF-11......

I think I've posted this before, but thought someone might find it useful in this thread. On my '79 928 I installed the 928MS adapters that allowed me to upgrade to a full GTS setup with Big Blacks on the front and the S4 / GTS calipers in the rear. On the front I'm using the slotted 2-piece Girodisc slotted rotors with aluminum hats from a 993TT. On the rears I'm using a slotted Powerslot rotor with black e-coat. It's a street car so running some Hawk pads. I had this done by Carl while he was doing my Stage 2 Supercharger Install. Maybe he'll chime in with his impressions since he's been driving the car this week, fine tuning the engine and alignment setups. Here are a few pics.

I knew he had a website, but no idea what it actually was. I'll have a good look.
