Bob D's monster 928 is in a private collection.
As are the DEVEK large displacement 928 engine and most parts - 709 hp if I remember correctly.
Good luck with your racer...looks like a fun project!
Best,
Marc

Very cool stuff. Love the workmanship! a perfect SCCA SP car!
Love the headers too!
How did you move the engine 12" backward? did you shorten the torque tube?
Looks like you will have some hot feet under braking
what track and times did you race the predicessor several seconds slower than the RSR 3.8L?
What are the plans to race when it is completed?

Thanks for the interest gentleman. If anyone is in need of big horsepower my father has all that info and if you would like to get a hold of him contact me and I will get you together. FYI he has already specked out a projected 1000hp twin turbo, so if anyone would like to have him build it out for them let me know. After making 711hp NA back in the 90's a 1000hp today should be a breeze, although not necessarily cheap...LOL. For those that asked this car is not Bob's car, it is a car we built after Bob had passed away. It was my first car to experience in racing and was just a few seconds a lap slower than a 3.8L RSR at the time. This is version 2 as the original Red car pictured has been turned into this project. We currently have an assembled ready to go 6.0L mild motor for this car hoping to put out around 500-550hp or so. Compression in this motor is around 11:1, my father could tell you what Bob's was...I would imagine around 14:1 or so. With the motor being moved back 14.5" it is a little tight so that is why the headers are snaked around. They are triple step, equal length (about 36" per tube) as we built everything in this motor to get the torque output as high as possible. I will do what I can to get my father down here for OCIC and mock the car up potentially. Keep the interest and questions coming and if you are local and want to see that is fine by me. J

This motor does not have sleeves. My father bored the block a bit and had a Moldex crank and custom pistons made for this 6.0L. We ran at PIR, Firebird and Willow Springs. Mark Mahaleck (spelling?) was there a few times in his USRRC 3.8L RSR and we were usually a few second off his times. It was a while back, but I want to say at PIR he ran 1:03ish and we ran 1:06ish. Can't recall Willow and Firebird??? The torque tube has been shortened and a shorter drive shaft will be used. We also have some fabricated aluminum torque tubes to try out that are much lighter. Hot feet for sure, will use some heat resistant materials to make a 30min run bearable. The goal with this car is just a fast track toy. Might run a few club races and maybe some HSR if they allow? My motivation is to finish this car and get it back on track so my Dad and I can get together here and there and have the pictures for the future. J

Keep up the good work Jason. I rememeber running on the track with your dad in that car and I hope to run with you once you get it done. I've always dreamed about slamming the motor back like that. I can't wait to see the results.

Sounds like this car will be more like the 1:00 range . I think the still standing 2000, ITE record for PIR is around 1:06 or 1:07 . Oh, I forgot, you have all those tubes!
SP SCCA !!
Thanks for posting and answer all the questions. awesome project.
Hope to see the car and meet you sometime at the races!

Jason,
Cool seeing all the work. I have some of the Devore fender flares on my race car...Mark Anderson's old buggy! Looking forward to seeing you at OCIC this summer! Glad things are progressing! When you get your ultimate motor for that car, keep me in mind for the old slow 550HP motor! LOL!

The intake is hand fabricated and could easily be duplicated, but requires going to aftermarket fuel injection. Inside the plenum are belled stacks and the throttle body is 1000cfm...will see how it all turns out after dyno time. Mark, it seems that original white car is in Austin with James. Would like to see what has been done with the gold lightened and caged chassis I sold you years ago...that car should have been lighter than the 2381lb wet w/driver we had if finished out right. Copy the SP...I am not willing to put weight in the car to slow it down for any class...LOL. Hope Mark and Mark will bring their race cars as well as others to OCIC. J

I heard someone talking about a solid lifter kit for these motors...does anyone have pictures or info on who is doing that and how they adjust? Also, any info on what type of rpm they have been reliability tested at? J
