How does it seal?
You do not need to pop out the bottom but you will need to put a bead of silicon to seal it.

It goes here, and prevents the crank from flinging oil out the breather hole:

How is this design better than Carl's? If the "V" points down, I could see when it completely eliminates slinging while allowing drain down. Carl's works well in my cars so far, but I guess it could allow a little sling up on spirited drives.

I've got a little louvered sheet metal piece that looks like carl's in there. Do you combine the two, or does this new piece replace it completely? This engine on the 86.5 had the plenums full of oil every time I pulled them off.

I'm not that familiar with Carl's but it looks like the 85/86 factory type that is no longer available. Joseph had the 85/86 factory type on his car and it had major oil in the breather.

It is designed to work with that plate in place.

CArl's is simular but much thicker than the stock one. Oil hitting the sides and bouncing up at just the right angle can get through, but not much.

LIke to see the finished product and a real world review. Looks like a better design at first glance.

For people that don't have the NLA louver style plate, this new piece should just be made with the louvers integrated into the top plate. Then it's the best that could be done there, and easier to seal too. But I understand how keeping it simple will keep the costs down, however. Just my 2 cents.

In my 86 I routed the cam cover breather hoses to an oil separator, but did not route the oil filler hoses to the separator. After finally getting a chance to tear some stuff down, I discovered I still have been ingesting a TON of oil through these hoses. It seems, like Joe has experienced, that most of the ingestion comes from this area. My car has the NLA screen as well.

What this product does is drastically reduce the amount of oil slung off the crank up the oil filler neck into the breathers at the base of the neck (depending on model year) and the top breather near the filler.
