Looks like there was some digital enhancement (colors, shadowing under the cars, etc.).
A cool ad nevertheless.
The voiceover sounds familiar...celebrity?
My voice, actually.

Love the ad. The pan looks much better after seeing it in that context, I think. It's kinda funny looking but so were most of those cars the first time I saw them.

Set yer Tivos:

The making of the commercial is part of the program on IFC, called “Welcome to the Family,” which is to have its debut at 10 p.m. (Eastern time) on Thursday. The channel is calling the show a documentary rather than a program-length commercial

(From http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/15/bu...ef=automobiles)

A brief search of IFC's program schedule lists no such thing, so perhaps they're full of it (?)

My IFC channel is all movies and there is nothing by that title between now and Friday afternoon...so I had the same experience you had...

Saw the commercial last night on Speed for the first time. I didn't care much for it. I'm not a Pan fan, and I didn't see it's natural predeccessor at all - the 928.

Default ...and now for the next suggested successor to the 928....

This is what I got from the IFC schedule earlier:

It will air again:
Oct 25 1PM, Oct 28 2:05PM, Nov 1 12:30AM, Nov 1 4:30PM, Nov 7 10:30AM, Nov 12 10PM - 30 mins

Hopefully this gets Tivo'ed & burned onto a DVD. I'd like to see it.

While we're on the topic of successor to/predecessor of the 928, there's an interesting article in Nov. Automobile mag: "Porsche & VW: What the Hell Happened?". I didn't know this, but Porsche chairman and his money man had a secret plan to take over VW. They started to borrow, then got over leveraged as word got out and VW stocks became too lofty for Porsche to control..then the economic downturn..... and Porsche weakened under a load of debt service. Weakened right into the hands of VW. The merger is to take place in 2011. We'll all be driving classic VW's?????
Where's the 928 content? A source from within VW headquarters says that the Cayenne will be phased out next year; followed by the Panamera - only after a 7 year model run...to be replaced with a "rebodied, high-performance derivative of the next Audi S7 or RS7 Sportback. Such a vehicle would be 650 pounds lighter and would feature a hybrid drivetrain. We could even derive a beautiful two-door coupe from this components set. Think of it as the modern 928."
His words.
Looks like we may have a 928 admirer w/in the confines of VW.
I couldn't find a link to this article, but it's pretty interesting.

Audi S7:

Audi Sportback:

A 2 door version of this would look much nicer than the Panamera, IMO.

IIRC, I was on IMDB.com and went to the "Welcome to the Family" link. I couldn't be sure I was on the right clip (30 sec) as I could only see one when it made me give them contact info before showing anything else and I really didn't have time. It had quick cutting of other pedigree cars, 356, 917, etc, but no 928. [edit] I have now seen the IFC pseudo doc that is 6+ minutes, x-cutting racing footage and some unknown jazz musician quoting as an authority on some musicianship vaguely related to quality and (I guess) a racing pedigree. Since Porsche is now trying to become "all things to all people" they are targeting buyers (sedan) who have never considered buying from Porsche before. I would call these "unsophisticated Porsche buyers": this sedan buyer doesn't know a shark from a grouper (sic), and certainly doesn't recognize our 'old' outdated 928. So, the 928 is pretty much a space holder in the frame. It was a niche market to begin; it's possible these new sedan-buyers might become interested in other older P-cars.

The Benz commercial that is running now that trades on its traditional marques is much better. MB needs to lose the new model crashing thru the museum/showroom glass, (into its rightful place) but otherwise a much better ad. Porsche needs another ad agency or director b/c this is not in the same league with the MB ad. Just my .02 cents.

Just watched Porken's 60 sec version below. This I like.

Same here. I even paused the commercial at times to look & no sign of the GTS.

Saw the ad for the first time during a Discovery Channel program on super highways. A white Panamera was included in the program. It was the longer ad, because I saw the GTS a few times.

(60 sec version)

Judging from the ads (short version I saw on speed last night...No 928...) and the placement at the back of the family tree, it is evident that the 928 is still the red-headed stepchild in the Porsche marketing dept. eyes.....

At least it is in the direct line of sight. How do you think the 924 owners feel they are an honorable mention under the 944 category and don't even get a place in the family tree.

Ouch! Do the 912 owners get a branch? Or are they just a knot on the 911 branch?
