Default Official Thread: Mark B's 928 Racer

We've got quite a few Marks with track cars! Add one more to the list... Here's my "official" thread that has been requested. Over the next week or so, I'll be updating this thread and hopefully I'll have a complete, chronological build thread from start to finish by the time this is done. Of course, the car isn't ever done (and has plenty of work that needs to be done), but I won't be changing a whole lot until next season after I graduate. I'll get started from the beginning here in a few hours.

In the meantime, here are some photos from the PCA event at Road Atlanta on 4/28:

Very cool! Great shots.

Looks like the suspension is taking a crushing. what are the spring rates front and rear again?

Thanks! I think it's compressed about 1"-1.5" from ride height in those pictures. Those turns are pretty high G-loading. No front tire rub!

Springs are 1000 pound front, 750 pound rear.

By the way, I'll get some pictures of the fender mounts tomorrow for you guys. Also, here is the track width and wheel info:

Outside to outside:
F: 74.5"
R: 77"

Track width is:
F: 63.5"
R: 64.5"

Wheels:
Front: 18x11 ET52 (3" outer, 8" inner)
Rear: 18x12.5 ET20 (5" outer, 7.5" inner)

You are probabaly a little more than that. my fender gets about 3" drop over the tire. You are also 4" wider in the rear and 2" wider in the front which lowers the spring rate. I dont know by how much, but its more leverage on the spring and shock. As you know, im at 750/450lb spring rates.

It looks great and must have been fun. any times? How did the car perform??

SUbscribed to the thread. Can't wait for more goodies. Really love your track shark. Gotta do the same front end treatment to mine when I get the guts to start cutting.

Thanks guys. I know I've said it 100 times, but I really appreciate the compliments. Abby, I look forward to seeing you soon as well. My dad is going to the June DE. Hopefully I can hit the track at least once this fall, but I probably won't be able to do much until next season.

So the car was bought in February of 2005 for $4000. 1986 5-speed, Weissgold on brown with a dead odometer at 122k (probably has more like 140k on it). I thought I would have it finished by July! Yeah, right. Here is what it looked like then:

So I started stripping it down and sanding the paint:

So its 3" wider up front than the widow, which is at 71.5"...so some quick math....that should work with up to 315 front tires on about 11.5" rims?
